I am getting ready to do a Mas90 update from 4.40 to 4.50 - was curious as to the pros and cons of in place vs parallel install in this situation - they do have a couple minor MD mods in 4.40.

Make a backup copy of the v4.4 folder. Install v4.5 over it. Less hassle if it works. You always have the BU v4.4 in case of a southern flight so you can then do a parallel.

It depends if the client wants to pilot and test. if they don't then follow Jeff advice. Otherwise you can do a 4.50 and migration

Excellent point @JimWoodhead my method assumes you are slamming it in and going live. But I have also done installs where I rename the v4.5 folder and put v4.4 back.

@JeffSchwenk - Previous to 4.40, I always did my upgrades w/ a BU and in place install... nice to have the option for parallel, but I just don't trust it yet.... Wonder why that is? @JimWoodhead - going to pilot with a snapshot of his system on my system. Good client that understands that value. - Thanks for the advice

I have always looked at the in-place vs parallel as primarily driven by: a. Number of users b. Complexity c. Presence of enhancements d. Additional items needing conversion/testing: Forms, Imports

We use the option for our value-priced proposals. Also the option to do the work during business hours or after hours. We define pretty carefully the deliverables and what happens if things go badly. Hang 3 prices on the levels, and let the customer choose.
