HTML in Paperless

  • 1.  HTML in Paperless

    Posted 10-23-2025 10:22

Have a client on 2025 who has verbiage setup for invoices and sales orders for Paperless Delivery.  The invoice looks fine when emailed.  The sales order displays all of the html formatting fields instead of actually USING the formatting, i.e.

<p>Please see the following Sales Order: <p><p>This is your only copy

    Etc, etc.

I've had him delete it and start over, I've viewed the body of each document in DFDM and they look basically the same... Any ideas?

I'd copy/paste into Notepad++ and look for extra invisible characters.

@Brett Zimmerman - I actually logged onto the server and did a test run from there and got the same thing.  I feel like there's some switch somewhere in some hidden file that needs to be flipped for that form...

I asked Copilot. Are you formatting the text box as HTML?

    ---------------

To add an HTML link (hyperlink) into a Crystal Report, you can use the following steps:

Steps to Add a Hyperlink in Crystal Reports

    Select the Field or Object:

Right-click on the text box, image, or field where you want to add the hyperlink.

    Access the Format Editor:
From the context menu, select "Format Field" (or "Format Object" depending on the type of object).

    Navigate to the Hyperlink Tab:

In the Format Editor dialog box, go to the "Hyperlink" tab.

    Set the Hyperlink:
Choose one of the following options:

Static URL: Enter a fixed URL (e.g., https://example.com).
    Dynamic URL: Use a formula to dynamically generate the URL based on field values. Click the Formula Editor button (a pencil icon) and write a formula like:Crystal"https://example.com/details?id=" & {YourFieldName}

    Apply and Save:
Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog box.

    Preview the Report:

When you preview the report, the field or object will now act as a clickable hyperlink.

@Jerry Norman Copilot is talking about Crystal, not Paperless Messages

I knew I was missing something. Sorry to bother!

    You've probably also tried these:

    • use their HTML code in your internal system.
    • use their html code in comletely independent web page
    • confirm the same failures in another form besides SO
    • Is there some dll-type file that interprets html code for Sage? Is it bad?

HTML email bodies are basically sent as text, and interpreted by the email client.  Incorrect HTML code fails to be interpreted by the email client (and it is displayed literally, including the tags, as Beth describes).

Thanks. I knew that, but didn't know that ..

My 1st three questions are relevant, no? Basically, under what circumstances and location does the desired html code work?

Does it work on a SO email in a Sage system v2021-24? Maybe something weird with v2025?

My understanding of the (relatively) new feature is that you use the Sage screen like a word processor, adding the formatting that you want... and Sage converts it to HTML.

THAT, @Kevin Moyes - is an important thing to know.  THANK YOU! (Still haven't fixed this problem, but...)

I have a client reporting this and wonder if you ever found a solution? The client says that all their customers are receiving the html code though I'm not sure how they could know that unless the customers were replying that they could not read the email message.

Did they use the Sage interface to format the HTML, or did they copy / paste their own HTML code?  I ran into an issue elsewhere that leads me to believe that email readers need something special to interpret the code text as HTML.

I don't know the answer to that. I'm going to suggest as a starting point that they blank out what is in the message and re-type it and not copy/paste. They also sent me an image which shows that the email clearly goes through a type of filter because it has one of those [Warning - External] headings which has me thinking perhaps one of their email filters is stripping some of the html or at least enough to force it to render as plain text.
