  • 1.  How should the Sage KB ever return such poor results?

    Posted 10-16-2024 09:06

How can this be ? Does anyone even try or do the people in whatever department responsible for the knowledgebase never use it ( this is my guess ) or just shrug and get back under the table so they don't standout?

Sample Query: " Void a payroll check"

The first 10 results - none of which directly address what should be the most basic "table stakes" type query a user would make into a knowledgebase

    1. AP Check Register update does not automatically VOID skipped check numbers
    2. How to void a check in Accounts Payable
    3. Error: "This check has been voided. Do you want to reuse check number?" when entering a check number or processing a check reversal
    4. Payroll Status Check utility
    5. No prompt with last check number printed, no prompt to remove check paper, no prompt to update Payroll Check Register
    6. How to Reverse Payroll Checks or Direct Deposits in Sage 100 versions 2017 or prior
    7. How to process a manual payroll checkI
    8. Interrupted Payroll Check Register update created duplicate checks in Employee Maintenance Check History (Payroll 2.x, version 2018 and higher)
    9. Error: "Checks must be printed" when attempting to print Payroll Check Register
    10. How to Remove Voided Checks

How many hours in the year could consultants save is there was a clear concise step-by-step guide which was (a) clear as to what version it was discussion (and not discussing) and (b) was readily searchable on the Sage Knowledgebase.

Perhaps this is good for consultants as it keeps everyone busy with busy work. Maybe the KB team has thrown up their hands and hope that someday maybe that AI will take the data and make it more usable.

In the words of the late Rick James - I wish I had more hands ... so I could give this knowledgebase four thumbs down ... or something like that

It's frustrating but the upside is how frustrating it is for users so they call us instead.

SMH.  I did find this via a Google search (https://us-kb.sage.com/portal/app/portlets/results/viewsolution.jsp?solutionid=222924550020440&hypermediatext=null), or the Help inside Sage 100.

In this example, the internal Sage vernacular for P/R checks is to reverse not void. IOW "reverse a payroll check" should show you results. Internal tribal knowledge is what you were missing Wayne :-) Having said that, of course the metadata keywords for all the P/R and A/P articles involving reverse or void should have both words in them.

Or using the Sage vernacular for bug defects, it is a WAD.....

I wonder if the Intacct KB has similar challenges?

FWIW, after 28 years of dealing with Sage, I still struggle for the right phrasing.
