Based on recent messages it doesn't seem like Production Management ( PM ) is fully vetted and ready for prime time ( willing to be corrected if I've misread various posts ).

I have one customer who uses serial numbers heavily with WO and the lack of an ability to automatically assign a range is likely a show stopper for them to consider an upgrade.

I presume that Work Order can still be used on 2020 upgrades and was planning to stick with WO until I heard more consistent feedback that people had (a) installed PM and (b) customers were happy.

But that's just my thinking -- what are you doing with existing WO customers who are needing an upgrade?

Has Sage updated when they will support WO through? I thought it was 2021 but I may ( probably ) be wrong...

For the serial # issue, I'd complain publicly (Sage City) that it is a requirement based on current WO functionality, not an "enhancement".  Cut through the politics with a little public pressure, and force them to put it on the roadmap.

We're going through a WO to PM conversion now, but they don't use serial #'s.  (Custom report performance is a significant bottleneck for this customer so we are rushing to get them onto SQL / Premium).

WO support apparently officially ends in early '23.

I think you have the dates correct for Sage to resume WO support...and likely more than that as well.

Any 'light' users of WO could make a conversion to PM, but I'm not convinced the product is stable, and it is undoubtedly missing significant features from the standpoint of an upgrade.  I would not recommend a customer with WO history upgrade since history does not convert, plus issues with serial number, creating WO Tickets from SO...this is standard Sage 100 WO legacy features should have been in the product from the get-go.

Issues that are a red flag for me -

    1. Lack of source code for development partners.  If Scanco won't release their code to the development peers, it makes me wonder what they are hiding.
    2. Scanco taking sales / redirecting sales - we have had a couple of reports from members, and likely there are more, of Scanco taking over accounts by pushing JobOps /Op Mgmt or just selling direct to customers.

So are there any successes for PM conversion from Work Order?  (Assuming the clients aren't dealing with the serial number assignments.) More importantly have clients seen benefits from converting to PM for business processes?  Can anyone answer the question, we're glad we converted to PM because...  Isn't the whole point to have a better mousetrap?

My understanding is the the Old Framework Work Order and MRP Module will be available to install on v2020, v2021 and v2022.  It will NOT be available to install on the eventual v2023 release.

Without a Product Update for v2020 we have not moved any manufacturing clients to that version.  But I can't now find my notes to confirm where this information came from.

    Alan,

We have a few of these going on right now, upgrades to newer version of Sage and moving to PM.  We have a couple of clients that were new on it as well.  I'll provide more feedback as it become relevant but I'm not sure I can say it's a better mousetrap, its close to the same mousetrap but opening some new doors for improvement.  We have a couple initiatives we moved forward with and I think we have some clients moving off production entry into production management.   What clients seem to want is a reason to move to the new PM, so we have worked on things like automating work ticket transaction entry from their other solutions data and we have written our own create work ticket from sales order process from within the sales order screen which we have a couple of clients looking at so we can perfect it even more.  The ability to add UDF's and scripting is opening some doors that were previously closed.

As for Scanco, yes they are trying to upsell everyone and causing frustration for clients.  They just ask a blanket are you made to order or made to stock, well it's not that simple. You can be made to order but your business process doesn't require the features of creating work tickets from sales orders and the added extra cost of the software plus implementation really make it a hindrance.  I think the next 6 months will be interesting.
