Hey folks. Has anyone tried to run MAS 90 version 4.30.0.7 on Windows server 2012 (64 bit) ? Have a client who's server has started acting up. We have been trying to get them to migrate and upgrade for 6 months. Now they are ready to do something because the old box is dying and an emergency is upon us. I'm looking at what our options are if things go to heck in a handbag. The customer has custom interfaces with 3 separate point of sale systems and they need to be tested and tweaked before migrating if possible. Otherwise, the interface will be manual until we can get stuff resolved. Thanks in advance for your input.

If possible I would bring the current server over to a new 2012 box as a virtual server.

While I haven't tried the 4.30 with 2012, could you virtualize them to get around this situation?

Sounds like you pitch them your level 4 emergency support plan.... Service Updates for v4.3 went all the way up to 23. You could try copying the existing MAS over to 2012, then install the SU's, then reinstall all the clients. That might work and buy you time to do the testing. If that doesn't work, then your level 5 emergency support plan pricing kicks in. Virtualizing would also be an option. I did that when I moved from 2003 to 2008 and I didn't want to reinstall a bunch of stuff.

@JeffSchwenk Level 5, is that anything like our ""Robert F. Kennedy Eternal Flame rate""? It burns forever you know.

Perhaps give them a glass of milk to lesson the pain. After awhile, it numbs. Are the POS systems also on the dying box? If so, it sounds like virtual is the optimal route. That way, they can stay on v4.3 forever.

@ShawnSlavin, We have an internal policy not to mix v4.3 with Windows 2012. We have experienced intermittent (random) error messages from MAS 90 v4.3 in the Windows 2012 environment. On two occasions, after a lot of ""diagnostic blah-blah-blah"" we upgraded to Sage 100 2014 and the problems ceased. That's my recommendation.

@DougJenkins that's what I'm looking for. I wanted to know if it was safet to move migrate them for a short period of if we have to. My take before is the same now: Only if we are looking for a way to waste time for free!
