Have you been installing 4.50 upgrades right over the top of live systems? If so, how has that worked? Any errors? I know @JeffSchwenk said he'd run into at least one and/or it was intermittent. I'd like on my smaller customer sites to start doing this but am not interested in getting 45 minutes into the install and finding that it's only working in some situations.

I am not certain that this is possible. I don't have enough of a track record to know for sure. I personally think it is easier. You don't have to worry about certain folders NOT being copied. In the instances that I have tried, I ALWAYS make a copy of the original folder for back up. I attempt to install in place, then I get a message that MAS already exists and to select a different destination folder. At which point, I pick a new folder and install parallel, then migrate everything over.

Thanks - I wasn't sure if there was any update on this. For smaller upgrades it makes sense to install in place because the one and two person accounting department typically does not do much testing anyway. I'm fine in those situations just copying the whole \MAS90 to a backup folder then upgrading over the live data and testing in place. i wouldn't do that for a larger upgrade that was moving several levels - but for a 4.4 to 4.5 it's probably fine -- if in fact it was supported.

My understanding is that with v45 you have an option of an in-place upgrade. I agree that it would definitely be desirable on smaller upgrades. Although I have not used the feature yet.

I thought that if it was 4.4 to 4.5, you could install in place or parallel, but anything below 4.4 to anything 4.4 or greater had to be parallel.

Yes that is my understanding too

I've been doing mine in place, with the backup of the whole MAS folder as stated above. I've had no issues with an in-place so far and it seems much more efficient than having to worry about something not copying, or changing paths with some things (like I put my paperless in the MAS folder so I make sure it gets backed up because I know some of my small clients only worry about the MAS folder on a nightly basis, etc).

I've done a couple of in-place upgrades. It only works for 4.4 to 4.5, and I haven't run into any significant issues on the couple that I've done. Most of the issues have been custom panel type things where the ""Upgrade to Current Level"" didn't like some people's customizations. We always make a backup, of course.
