Have you always been able to put a kit within a kit if you are using Bill of Materials?

I didn't think so. What version are you seeing this in?

Maybe the lingo has me uncertain, but if you have Bills of Material module implemented, you can't use kits. You can have a Bill be a component of another Bill, up to 10 levels, I believe.

That's what I always thought. But I was just on a client machine and noticed they had a kit in a kit. So I tried in on 2014 and yep. You can put a kit in a kit, if you're using Bill of Materials. (You can still use Kits in Bills, @MichelleTaylor .)

Thanks Beth! Curious, did the kits exist prior to implementing Bills? I can't even get into it since BOM is setup.

@MichelleTaylor - once you turn on Bills you access the kits IN Bill of Materials. It's just a different type of bill.

I knew you could have kits when B/M is acierated, I admit that I did not know you could add a kit item to a kit though. So I tested this in a 4.3 install I have hanging around (this version is prior to I/M and B/M update to 4.x standards). I was surprised to find that you can do this even back in the old days. I tested putting upper level kit on a sales order; it does not explode the second kit which is what I expected. Good to know @BethBowers ! Things that make you go ""hmmmmm

Yeah, and all these years I've been telling my clients the thing that's different about kits is that you can't put a kit on a kit. Hmph.

Curious as to whether the embedded kit also explodes as part of the original, or if only the primary kit explodes during SO Entry.

That's what David tested - only the primary explodes.
