Have client using BIE on 100 Advanced. One user experiences ""freezing"" when attempting to load a View, other users seem to be okay. While troubleshooting, it has been observed that network traffic spikes significantly on the workstation when BIE View is attempting to load. Had not thought about it previously, assumed since Advanced - processing was taking place on server. However, it appears BIE is using local ODBC driver like Crystal does by spike in NIC usage. 1.)Can anyone confirm BIE indeed uses local ODBC driver? 2.)If so, can C/S ODBC be setup to transition that processing to server (same as Crystal)? Thanks in advance!

It could be that CS-ODBC is simply not enabled in User Maintenance for the person experiencing difficulties.

CS ODBC is currently not in use for any user, it's not setup on server. Just wondering if implemented, would it work for BIE? (Know it does for Crystal). Assuming so when thinking about it, just seeking clarification if someone has experience with it. Likely next step depending on what internal IT comes back with. Thanks Kevin!

Well, I don't know for sure BIE uses ODBC but it certainly doesn't do any harm to try CS-ODBC, especially if you just turn it on for the one user experiencing difficulties.

Agreed, those are my thoughts too. Their network guy is looking into other possible causes (poorer performance for specific user), but to address the BIE issue if he does not come up with something will try CS ODBC. Thanks again, Kevin. Have a great day...

I have had CS ODBC fix speed (or lack thereof) issues in BIE. However, if it is just one user having speed issues, there is probably something wrong on the network side.

Thanks Phil, thought it made sense that it would once known using ODBC driver. Candidly, I never knew it prior to this issue. Never gave it any thought, but once issue surfaced initial thought was it would be handled by it's own pvxwin32.exe process on the server. Always learning I guess (forgetting too the older I get). Thanks again!

Could it be a data issue with the view? I have run into issues when date fields are selected to use for filtering. Especially if some of the date fields have invalid characters.

I know the CS ODBC is used when doing Excel queries on a workstation with it enabled. You can see the CS ODBC called out in the properties of the query. So it would stand to reason that BIE would use it as well. Just my .02 for the day.

I remember one customer with a single user complaining of speed issues. It turns out she was in a different part of the building, with a wireless bridge between her and the Sage server. So much time wasted when it was network infrastructure as the cause.
