Have anyone used this utility/add-on from ASI that appears to allow for consolidation of multiple Sage 100 ERP companies? Comments? http://www.asifocus.com/products/additions-for-sage-100-erp-mas90-mas200/company-consolidation/

I've used DSD's and it works fine.

@MarkChinsky, are you referring to DSD's GLCN Multi-Company Financial Consolidation enhancement? ASI's is for actually combining companies.

There was some discussion on the ASI enhancement but i can't rember the tone. I think it might have been around cost.

I believe we used it for a one time merge where a client had originally set up multiple companies and then later wanted them (customers/vendors/gl) in one company. If memory serves me, it was easier/cheaper than doing it with VI and dealing with invoice # issues. Memory kind of blurry.

What are their needs? Is it just for reporting or do they need a hybrid of combined and independent facilities?

@BrettZimmerman I believe DSD's does actually create a physical consolidation company for reporting. Why would somebody want to merge entire companies into one??

@MarkChinsky, I think you're right but I believe that newly created company only contains G/L data for the purpose of generating the consolidated financials. An example I'm aware of as to why someone would want to merge entire companies into one is if 3 currently separate taxing entities need to be 1 (e.g., via acquisition).

And even then I wonder if people really want that. Seems to me it might invite IRS problems.

    Nice write-up, @WayneSchulz. http://www.s-consult.com/2013/08/28/consolidate-or-merge-multiple-sage-100-erp-company-codes-into-one/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SchulzConsulting+%28Schulz+Consulting%29

Regarding @WayneSchulz Post it's missing two things: 1) Since it's something so rare (I've not seen it in other systems) you should clarify that's its truly merging the entire database, not just creating a consolidated financial reporting database and 2) Give some type of real life example as to why you might want to do this. I still can't think of one.

Their real life example is if you wanted to report monthly on combined data from separate company codes. I was actually surprised that this is still around since I have only seen requests for this maybe once or twice. I cannot see how IRS wise you would want to combine two separate taxable entities but I can see for internal reporting.

@WayneSchulz, I appreciate this thread and your write-up. We have a client that is in need to absorbing another company and this tool looks like it may be the answer. I asked for a copy of the documentation and was pleased with the very detailed section on ""How Tables are Consolidated"". It indicates how each field is modified under each file in each module affected. The modules handled are GL, AR, AP, IM, CI, JC, PO, SO and the ASI Service Center module. Rush Rollins of ASI (rrollins@asifocus.com) sent me the following link to ASI Company Consolidation documentation. http://www.asifocus.com/wp-content/help/con450/index.html

You are quick. I have already done that and asked Brian Kelly if it was ok to post the docs.

I have a prospect right now that has 13 entities with various ownership structures. However, the ""parent"" organization wants to report across all entities and group in different ways (kind of like trees). They only have one user who will do all this and is not a report writer. The DSD module looks like it will work really well. They also do intercompany payment processing and again DSD has a module for that.... ASI's looks a little more comprehensive for consolidation and a little more pricey.

I recall using FRx to create consolidated reports with as many as 6 company codes. But that was only the financials (and used trees to deal with the different account structures). Does SI handle this now? Thought I heard/read that it did. Full consolidation across the modules looks very interesting with ASI product.

@MarkChinsky I have a long standing MAS client that purchased two companies in the past 18 months. Both acquired companies were set up separately in MAS (identical GL's) even though they were one legal entity. I just received word today that they want to combine/merge all three companies into one as of 1/1/14. They have three of everything. They are going to increase their GL segments to four to accommodate the three locations. Looks like this is the place to start.....

Based on the feedback of the group, client is moving ahead with this utility.
