Have a MAS 90 4.4 client who makes nutritional supplements and uses WO/BM/MRP. I'd like to switch them from using Average Cost to LOT for finished goods and ingredients (raw materials). WO is configured to Auto Issue Material up to qty available and Completion Method is Actual. Any hidden gotchas when using LOT valuation in this environment, especially as it relates to auto issue of material or completion of WO?

I take it that they are using lots for cost tracking and NOT for incredient tracking?

    Hopefully for both.

Obvious difference is that though the system will auto-generate the transaction, I do not believe it auto assigns Lots. This means they have an additional step of opening transaction and assigning Lots (scanning helps). You tackled a big issue by setting Auto Issue to qty available. Typically we find receiving processing drags behind, particularly when Lot assignment involved, so frequently materials are physically here but not available in system.

@MikeFitzgerald Had to, as their receipts must be quarantined for 30 days (to fulfill QC testing requirements) before they can be used. I'd like to find an elegant way of locking lot's ""in quarantine"" (in lieu of using a warehouse code).

I would think advanced scripting in 4.40 would probably work.

@MikeFitzgerald I have to show the items as received, but need to lock them from being consumed. Would rather use the same warehouse, as it'll make it easier to edit the Components Requirement Report to show what they have and how much of it is in-house, but in quarantine. @RobertWood Quite possibly, but I have to ensure I can create my UDF's in the right places and show a transaction (traced back to a user) for audit purposes.

I have a customer that has to quarantine materials. They make pharma products. We are using the secondary warehouse method. When the items are received in, they go to a quarantine warehouse. They have two QC processes, so when the items are checked the first time and pass, they move from quarantine to QC. Then when they pass the second test they move from QC to regular stock. It's a complicated process but there are regulations to follow. Everything is lot controlled.

@DawnAnastasi Sounds similar to what I'm trying to accomplish. I just figured it would be easier for all to use same warehouse so PO's aren't cut against the wrong one and the lot has a designation (if it gets received into the wrong whse). If it gets too complicated, a quarantine warehouse is plan B.

The down side of lots is the auto issue material problem. It definitely does not auto issue. It generates the issue transaction for you, but you have to manually assign the lots. The other thing to note, just in case it applies, that if you do multiple issues to the same Lot number with different costs, the lot averages out the cost.
