Have a manufacturing client that wants to have inventory item valuations as standard but also track lot numbers. They are in the food processing industry and need lot tracking on both purchasing and sales. Not sure we want to change all their items to Lot Valuation. Anyone have a solution they have implemented for this scenario?

The only solution I have come up with, which was for a client in the medical industry, was to create a UDF and link it to the various tables. They didn't need to rely on quantities though. They were in need of expiration dates by lot as they moved medications and other items from central receiving to clinic locations. And they refused to switch to lot valuation.

Thanks @GeneUlrich that's what I was thinking as well. You said they refused to switch, what were the reasons they didn't want to go with Lot Valuation?

They were so entrenched withFIFO they just wouldn't change for the items that needed the expiration info. I couldn't convince them it would be easier and less expensive. Ultimately they were happy with the solution I came up with.

This is kind of like how multi-bin is also missing from core functionality. If they don't want to switch to lot valuation they won't get a clean method for tracking lots. Sage 500 has Std valuation with lot tracking as a separate function. Too bad 100 does not.

Exactly, @alanniergarth in fact the client was perplexed when I explained to him that lot tracking was the valuation method not a separate function.

I believe that one of ACS's manufacturing enhancements allows you to complete work orders with lot valuations at a standard cost. That wouldn't help for purchasing ...

I'll have to talk to Ron Chompf about that and see what it is all about. Thanks @MichaelNottoli
