Have a customer on v4.4 Sage 100. Within PO Receipts they complain that labels will only auto print on update. I haven't yet verified this Any way to get labels to print as the receipt is entered but not updated.

I'd verify it. That's one of the things they tout about 4.4 versus 4.3.

I'll have to run a sample. I'm taking the customers word that they haven't been able to make it work as they want it. I don't see an option other than to turn receipt labels on or off within inventory.

I just did a quick test- I'm not sure how this worked prior to 4.4 but in 4.5 when I receive an item where I've indicated to print receipt labels I can go through the posting process and it will prompt for receipt labels BEFORE it prompts for update. Which I guess sorta kinda achieves the goal until the PO clerk answers ""yes"" to update by mistake. I also did not test whether Sage keeps track of which lines have had labels printed vs yet to be printed. So if for example I go in to do 5 separate receipts and go to update 5 separate times (but answer NO to the update question) will I continue to get labels (have to test that part). My suspicion is that I would indeed get duplicate labels and that Sage is not tracking which receipt labels have already been printed. Does not appear to completely incorporate IM-1051 which used to be available to achieve the label printing before the update. From reading IM-1051 it seemed to prompt when you backed out of a receipt of goods and didn't require you to start the posting process. I still feel as if this is largely a customer procedural issue vs a material flaw of the system.

What the customer is looking for is to have their receiving clerk print one label at a time as ROG is processed on a purchase order. (I've suggested the typical workarounds which could include a Crystal Report/Label). They're looking for an automated system that spits out labels as PO Receipt of Goods per invoice happens. As Sage does it now --- whether before or after an update -- all the inventory labels come out in one batch (have to check if they're sorted by PO but I don't think so). Customer's argument is that their receiving clerk could screw up and put the wrong label on the wrong item if they have a big batch in front of them.

Here's my reply to them including the answer to the ages old question of ""how do other companies do this"" (which implies that all companies are the same and assign the same degree of importance to resolving the issue.. Beginning with v4.4 (which I believe is the version that we have) the bar code labels should be available for printing prior to an update from PO Receipt of Goods. As I understand your concern however this probably does NOT fully resolve your issue of printing receipt labels for Inventory items. I believe the main benefit of this feature is that you can go about your receipt of goods. Be prompted to print labels - but not have to update until the labels are printed. This helps in situations where the labels may jam in the printer because you can answer ""no"" to update and go back and reprint labels. I would have to specifically test in more detail whether you could hold a ROG batch open throughout the day and keep going in and print labels without also getting labels previously printed (ie that the Sage system tracks that a receipt label has already printed). My hunch is that you WOULD get duplicates and probably NOT able to hold a single batch during the day and keep printing labels but answering NO to update until end of day. With respect to how other companies do this - it really depends upon the value that place on the solution to the problem Companies who have a low value to solving the problem either design a Crystal Report or print the labels directly from Inventory on a one-by-one basis. Companies with a higher value assigned to solving the problem may use third party software such as is available from Scanforce or Scanco which offers a much higher level of automation via bar code scanning and specialized label printing software. These features come at an added cost which the companies find is justified because the added features are valuable enough to them. If you like I can have a representative from either of these companies contact you to arrange for a time to review their solutions which extend the capabilities of your existing Sage ERP.
