Have a client planning on installing thin client terminals. They will be upgrading their MAS 200 to version 4.5 on a Windows 2008 R2 server. I haven't heard much lately about how the these terminals are working out there in the world. Anyone have clients for whom this setup is working well? Or if not, what issues are they experiencing?

I have one customer using thin clients to connect to Remote Desktop. The biggest issue is with multiple screens: RD sees two screens as a single, really wide screen. I seem to recall that maximizing works OK, but when there is a dialog box, it pops up in the center, right where the two screens are separated. That is a pain, and they don't like that. I have a couple of other customers running MAS90 as a RemoteApp on Server 2008, and they like the speed of RemoteApp vs running it as a local application. Hope that helps.

I think you may have issues with printers (which are solveable) if everyone goes to an RDP environment. And if everyone is in this environment, there really isn't a need for MAS 200. MAS 90 would work almost as well and for a lot fewer dollars....

I try to suppress the bad memories, and Jeff's post reminded me that there were some printer issues with the Remote App. Network printers are MUCH easier to troubleshoot in this environment than USB printers.

Network printers all the way or you will spend a lot of time playing driver roulette. Some printers (mainly the $100 and below HP lasers) won't work without considerable duct tape. I prefer the entry-level Brother laser printers and have used them in TS environments without any hiccups. You will also want to keep an eye on how many people will be running reports in ths TS session at the same time. To the best of my knowledge and experience, Crystal will only use 1 cpu on a multi-core system so it can easily max out one core and leave the others untouched. You also want to keep an eye on any remote management applications (LogMeIn, GoToMyPC, VNC, etc.) which will load one instance of the software per logged in user and chew through RAM.
