Has Sage changed the MASCRW tool? I recently ran a pretty complex custom report through it. The client was on 4.05. The MASCRW changed all the appropriate fields as well as changing the tables that made up the groupings. I don't remember it as being this powerful before and though it mostly served to update fields for minor changes and not make wholesale table swaps -- including changing in groupings, formulas.

I've been using it since 4.10 and it has always worked really well for me, unless UDFs are involved. Or the 12 month history files.

Have you used this on non-framework to framework forms -- for example Sales Order in v4.05 to 4.40?

No, that usually won't work. I have a few ways of doing those manually, though, instead of completely starting from scratch, when it's a form I didn't create and it's very complicated and I""m afraid I'll miss something.

Agreed. Since the consolidated all the lines type into one type it won't do it very well

The mascrcw.exe utility really does apparently convert reports nicely in many cases, but not in all cases. There's certain files that no mapping exists for, like the APB Check Hist file and IM_13, and also UDF files like SO_90 and PO_95. And there's certain data fields that no mapping exists for either. It also doesn't appear it can convert reports that have links to external files such as an xls or mdb - although i'm wondering if that's due to me running this utility on my local system and not the client's system. I've also found that when going thru the Wizard and clicking Search, it won't necessarily pick up ""all"" files - I guess if it can't interpret them correctly for whatever reason. It just skips them and unfortunately doesn't inform you that it skipped them. At least for the reports that fail the conversion, you see that in the log - so be aware. Also keep in mind that even though converted reports show as Complete in the mascrcw log, Warning messages might be listed if specific fields couldn't be mapped - but I'm pretty sure at least most of those messages are related to running this utility on my own local system vs. the client's system.

My only issue with the utiltiy is that it keeps prompting for login and PW. This is after I enter the information in two places, then save the changes which creates the silent login. This method worked until the v4.4 upgrade.

Tell me about it. Not so bad for 10 or 20 reports, but 200 became just a tad monotonous.

Seems to not be doing that so much any more for me, except when there is a subreport in the report.

You know you can add and change the mascrw.ini to have your udf names and other tables/fields.

    Interesting.

And it looks like that file shows all the current mappings that exist. Cool stuff.

I didn't know that @ToddMartin. I learn something new all the time when you're around.

Glad I was able to show @RobertWood something new. If I keep this up it is going to be harder to do.

    Good luck with that!

So has anyone figured out the 4.4 repeat login issue on this program. At this point it is almost unusable .

No and it is very frustrating. Not always required for every form. Makes me wonder if they used a different dsn like a system dsn compared to a user dsn with the same name. Something that throws off between the reports. I did it just the other day and a good handful went through without any issue then it just went nuts on me. logging in for each table used in the report.

Has anyone had any luck with using this Utility to convert Forms? I did a quick test of a 4.30 PO form and it failed.

I have used the utility to convert the forms. Not all can be converted with this utility but it does work. Just a pain to enter your logon for each table for certain reports.

I've done manual Set Locations to do most forms.

It is custom reports with multiple tables that is the killer.

What do you mean by manual set locations to do most forms? I go into the wizard and enter the user ID and password then click on configure and set it there as well but will still get the issue. Are you doing something else to get around it?

No, I mean on forms I don't use the wizard at all. Instead I do some manual Set Locations to ""link"" old files like SO1 to the SO_SOWrk file. Only when the forms are really messy and I don't want to leave something tricky out that isn't readily apparent.
