Has anyone run into this? Version 4.50, SR2. Client has had no problems since the upgrade in December, all of a sudden users receive random ""Error Encountered - File Not Found"" messages referencing the SY_SagePEP.M4T file. Checked the file and it does exist, and the error messages are logged in the file: Error 11, SY_SagePEP.pvc, line 194. Client has no enhancements or third-party solutions. Can't figure out why this has just started occurring; no changes to network or to MAS 90.

I believe there were some fixes in PU and PU4 regarding that particular file, but you may also be able to prevent the error by disabling the program itself. Log in to the MAS90 as Administrator, click on the ""Sage PEP"" link at the bottom, and deselect ""Participate"".

yes, I've seen it - log into MAS as administrater and turn off the product enhancement option suddenly happened at one of my clients also; completely out of the blue and turning that off fixed it - we never followed up on why it happened though

I have added turning off PEP to my upgrade process checklist.

I have also had a client notice the PEP running in Master Console. Came in one morning and something wouldn't update in AR, so he checked Master Console to see if anyone was in something and saw this running and it totally freaked him out. Needless to say, it's now disabled. But I have had that error recently, too.

This is what I ran into recently with PEP after installing a service update. http://www.mbabsi.com/MAS-has-encountered-a-problem.html

Just like company data files can get corrupted so can PEP data files in MAS_System. That's what happened here. You already turned off PEP so good deal. Part of my upgrade checklist too but since I'm the one installing, to cover myself I send this to client first while recommending it be turned off pointing out privacy concerns since we don't know have an exact list of info it collects and phones home about - http://na.sage.com/sage-100-erp/lp/sage-100-erp-survey/

@ToddMartin - One of the PEP events probably occurs during post-login of MAS. I am presuming it doesn't support proxy servers when it tries to make an internet connection to phone home and send data. Curious is it possible your client is using a proxy server and that's why you get your cryptic exception error right after login?

@AlnoorCassim They are on a hosted applianz box. I don't know if applianz uses a proxy or not for their internal network. What is also strange is the error doesn't show on the server running MAS 90 only on the clients (all applianz clients).

No proxy on my end, unless the ISP made a recent change.

I have noticed recently when logging into MAS200 the menus do not work for about 5 secs. Master console shows the PEP running and then goes away. I do not have problem with PEP - I think it helps Sage and us. If it is fact logging errors back home - then my hope is they are plugging these holes more often.

@RobertWood Maybe we will hear some info at Summit if this has been worthwhile. In theory I can see the benefit.

@RobertWood - Perish the thought! @JohnnyPabian - My clients make the call. When I tell them I have no idea what is reported back to Sage, they request that I shut it off. May be another reason to attend the Summit................

@JohnnyPabian - I doubt PEP is logging errors (that would be nice) and I'm sure most of the data is collected in aggregate but at the same time we don't have a specific list. Also having worked there and knowing there is no central authority, at some point individual teams will use the data in their own way to make decisions on the nefarious side. E.g. data they collected (not from PEP) on direct customer usage of the Bronze plan and how those customers widely used the partner's support plan more (when the Support rep asks you ""and which customer is this for ..""), led to their belief they were losing 3.5 million a year (or whatever $ Jeff Szoranos had stated on that LinkedIn post). This led to you know what. Data collection / product improvement goes both ways. If the clients can specifically choose what data gets sent via PEP (e.g. just errors, o/s info, module options data, list of mods) that would be ideal.

this was from this website. - http://na.sage.com/sage-100-erp/lp/sage-100-erp-survey/ What kind of data is collected and how is it used? We collect information about your usage of the software program, the hardware used to run the program, and statistics about your company. We also collect the serial number of your product so that we can identify trends over time for a given installation. We do not collect financial information from your company information. For example, we may be interested in how many Sage 100 ERP customers use ""Enter Cash Receipts"" versus ""Apply Payments and Memos"", but we will not collect any information contained in the individual transactions. Examples of the data collected: What version of Sage 100 ERP is installed? What auditing features are enabled? How often is the ""Shipping Data Entry"" screen used? How many transactions are in the system? What is the serial number of the product being used? What is the operating system running Sage 100 ERP? Does the company use finance charges? We are interested in aggregating usage data so that we can identify areas of the program that we need to improve. We may also use the information we gather to create offers that suit your individual needs. As we continue to gather and analyze data, we may change the types of data we collect to better achieve the goal of improving our products and services. Those changes will be transparent and will not affect your work. How often will I be sharing this anonymous information with you? We anticipate that the information will be shared once per day. How is data sent and stored? All information will be sent automatically via the Internet. Once you join the Product Enhancement Program you don't need to do anything else. Data transmission takes place in the background, without disturbing your current tasks, and should not affect the performance of your computer. Data is encrypted during transmission using SSL and is stored securely. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. Will you be sharing this information with other companies? Sage will use this information for internal purposes only. How long will the Product Enhancement Program run? The program will run indefinitely or until you choose to discontinue participating. To opt out of the program, please click Product Enhancement Program from the Administrative Tools menu. Once the study has been turned off, no more data will be collected or sent. You can join or drop out of the program as many times as desired. How can I take a Survey or join the Product Enhancement Program? Product Enhancement Program Participants are enrolled automatically and survey participants are either selected at random or based on the type of product being used, or other anonymous information. You have the option to decline any survey invitation and choose not to receive future invitations. Joining the Product Enhancement Program allows us to collect data for anyone using the active company. To opt out of the program, please have your Administrator go to the Product Enhancement Program page from the Administration screen. Once the study has been turned off, no more data will be collected or sent. You can join or drop out of the program as many times as desired
