Has anyone run into this? Client is on 4.40.0.10. They use WO and BOM. They created a work order for a quantity of 10 and the bill of materials did not pull in any planned cost because they forgot to put quantities in for each of their components. Their finished good item is Standard Cost valued. The work order was set to use Planned Cost. I realize that the planned cost was zero, but the finished good was Standard Cost valued so it should, in my opinion, put the FG into inventory at the item's Standard Cost, which it does have. What happened is that the item transacted into inventory at zero cost, BUT GL posted a debit to inventory. I found nothing on the Knowledgebase ... shouldn't a standard cost valued parent item always go into inventory at the Standard Cost of the item no matter what the work order is set to?

I've been thinking .... so the inventory item transacts into Inventory at zero cost BUT if you run the Inventory Trial Balance and use Current Cost for Standard Cost items .. then you should balance, right?

I thought the Current Cost would be the Standard Cost field on the Item Maintenance screen. ????

Are you saying @JaneScanlan that in WO Transaction Details, the complete transaction has a zero cost? If the item's standard cost, there aren't any cost details kept at the item level so I don't understand how the item transacted into inventory with a zero cost. So if the WO Transaction Details say completion = zero dollars i.e., planned cost and GL says transaction for WO XXX is not zero dollars, then it seems WO is working correctly with a planned cost and inventory is working correctly for rules of standard cost.

I think @MoiraGoggin is right - after all, it DID debit the inventory GL account.

Hummm, not sure I agree. Seems to me that the Planned Cost should have created a Variance posting. That is, Inventory should have been debited at the Standard Cost and GL updated accordingly, WO Complete Trans detail = zero, WIP credit = 0, Variance hit should be offsetting Std Cost amount. Or am I turned around. (and yes, I can look at stuff even if I'm on vacances :) ).

There is something wrong with their inventory and I'm still trying to figure out why every month they continue to not balance. I'm going to do some more digging. I have a better understanding of the existing logic now that if an item is Standard Cost valued a Work Order Completion will record the inventory transaction record at the unit cost of Planned Cost ... it didn't make sense to me at first, but that is what PO receipts do too ... if you do a zero cost receipt of a Standard Cost item it records the inventory transaction the same way -- 0.00 unit cost, 0.00 Extended Cost, but the Extended Standard Cost is updated using the item's assigned Standard Cost in inventory.

Does the Inventory Transaction Detail show zero cost for the Finished Goods items?

The old 4.05 version of explaning the cost completion methods might help. I've attached it.
