Has anyone ported their main phone number (I think you can only port if it's a cellular no.) to Google Voice? As I understand - if you have a Google Voice number already (which I do) you can pay $20 and port another cell number to that account. I presently have my business line on my ATT Android phone. Because I get so many unrelated telemarketing calls - I'm looking to transfer that ATT (business) line to Google Voice and apply the SPAM protection and also filter them online versus trying to make rules on my phone. The vast majority of my spam calls are - Google listings (it's not Google calling) - Overseas offshoring Wonder if anyone has done this? Once I port the number to Google Voice I'll also be able to use it from any of my smart phones now or in the future. It can also be linked to Google Talk where incoming voice calls can be answered. I don't think I would have considered this 5 years ago -- however the call volume has dropped dramatically (probably 95% of my communication is email) and the incoming telemarketing calls have grown steadily. I no longer think of my primary voice line as highly strategic since most customers use my email as their primary contact. If I were doing more initial customer contact via phone then I'd be much more cautious in this type of transfer.

We forward our main line to a Google Voice number so anyone calling the office is (un-knowingly) calling into a Google Voice account. I haven't ported it so I can take it off any time I want without much hassle.

My main number is a Google Voice number (which I've had since GrandCentral days), and I love the flexibility it offers me. I don't have any experience with a port though.
