Has anyone experienced issues with Paperless Office in v4.40 in Windows 8.1 workstations?

Just the other day I had to do what was recommended in this thread: https://90minds-com.socialcast.com/messages/14189082?ref=stream Turn off Locking and then go into regedit and allow full access. Good luck! Select Start, Run (or Press WINDOWS KEY+R) Type: REGEDIT Press ENTER Expand HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG,SOFTWARE Right-click Sage PDF Converter Select Permissions Select Add Add a User Account or Group the Sage 100 users are members of (i.e. Domain Users) Select OK Select Full Control under Allow column Select Apply Select OK Exit Registry

Paperless issues aren't limited to v4.4. I think every Win 8 install needs a tweak. My first encounter with it took a week to resolve. Sage did not support it at the time....

That's why I hesitate to go to Windows 10, or recommend it.

Thinking of going to Windows 10 makes me cringe...only because I don't know what may break ;)

@NicoleRonchetti said she went to 10, experienced issue with paperless but a reinstall of the workstation/pdf seemed to fix it

I think that was because i had MAS installed then upgraded the OS... but thats just my hunch. In Windows 8 make sure that you set the Sage icon to run as administrator on the Compatibility Tab under the shortcut properties or it may have issues.

I am thinking about taking the WIN 10 plunge this weekend as I am ""baching"" it. Can't decide whether to install over 8 or wipe the disk and start over.....

Personally I'll be on Windows 7 until I can't. Make sure you do the Windows 10 privacy fixes @MoiraGoggin posted about, and check periodically to make sure M$ doesn't switch them back every patch Tuesday. And wipe the disk first. ""Upgrading"" an OS is never a good idea.

Also make sure you have your Office activation keys. I have heard of Office disappearing on the upgrade.

Just had a customer who's PC was upgraded to Windows 10. After much monkeying around, I finally saw @NicoleRonchetti's link to KB article and changed the shortcut properties to run as administrator and it seems to have resolved it. The registry is not the same in Windows 10, BTW.

I should say that for the second time in the last week, I was directed to this resolution by the one and only @JeffSchwenk. (You'd think I'd learn, but every time I get a PL issue, I sigh a big sigh and get frustrated.) Thanks again Jeff, for recommending reaching out to those who may know rather than scratching your head or digging for resolutions. As @LourdesSobrino said, Muchas Gracias!

In addition, how do you stress to customers NOT to update OS's without contacting you first? This customer was so nonchalant - ""We'll all be upgrading to 10 soon because it is currently free."" Um, no, it is not, all things considered....

I think we have all been down that path of trying to solve it quickly without thinking it MIGHT be quicker to reach out to someone. My first WIN 8 install (which client didn't bother to give me a heads up) took a week to resolve before I read an SC post that resolved it. The second one that I had to resolve was MUCHHHHHH easier. Tip for all who send out client newsletter, this warning should be front and center on your next edition. As @ThereseLogeais points out, there is no such thing as a free lunch..
