Has anyone every created a routine/ script to rebuild sort file (SO/PO/IM) (V4.40) on a nightly basis? @AlnoorCassim ?

  • 2.  RE: Has anyone every created a routine/ script to rebu

I did it for legacy modules but not BF because it is not developer friendly. Nonetheless that could be done. Question - is the goal just to Recalc Qty On SO, Recalc Qty On PO, and Clear Lot/Serial committed? If so, that is much more straightforward than actual rebuild of Sort files.

mainly the QTY of SO and PO's

@AlnoorCassim that's a sad statement that the legacy modules should be more developer friendly than the BF modules in anything.

@AlnoorCassim or @JimWoodhead I'd be interested in a routine to recalc the PO/SO quantites automatically too. I assumed some form of automating 'rebuilding sorts' would be the natural place to start.

@JimWoodhead, @BrettLyder - OK I will check out automating the recalc of Qty on PO and SO and report back.

I think there is not as much of a need to actually rebuild sort files as in the past but the recalc of the numbers.

Actually we have a couple customers that now since they moved to 4.4 we have seemed to have to recalc QoH more than in prior versions.

  • 9.  RE: Has anyone every created a routine/ script to rebu

    Posted 04-17-2012 11:19
I also have a customer that since upgrading it seems like they are rebuilding sorts more and more.

Since we refreshed this topic...any news on whether or not somebody has a way to automate it?

Ah, thanks Brett...that was my whole reason for replying to this thread to see if someone has an automation solution. Sage was unable to explain satisfactorily why it happens. Neither of these customers import PO's or SO's either.

  • 12.  RE: Has anyone every created a routine/ script to rebu

    Posted 04-17-2012 11:29
Yeah Brian i figured. I think the problem is as bad or worse than ever too. The client i'm primarily thinking of doesn't import POs or SO's either. They are a fairly large organization with many people shipping and invoicing in different locations and time zones. Can't really get them all out to rebuild sorts so i'd like to automate it to run over night.

Brett, sounds like we are in the same boat. My customer has a high volume of shipments and receipts per day, multi site users as well (local warehouse and a remote warehouse user). The operations and purchasing people are frustrated that they can't rely on the On PO and On SO numbers in inventory inquiry.

Exactly! yep, same boat. Sinking fast...hope it doesn't go down with us both on it.

In terms of an auto-run utility, I have researched and learned that Qty on SO and Qty on PO calcs done by Rebuild Sorts vary depend on certain factors. Some are more obvious like whether there are integrations to JC and IM. Some differences are related to versions of MAS itself. The most interesting one so far has been that Job Ops modifies Rebuild PO and SO sorts (amongst others I imagine) but their code is passworded so I can't see how they're changing the standard code. That is the 1st question I would ask about your clients that need to rebuild sorts frequently (do they use Job Ops) From a development point-of-view, it is not friendly towards BOI (or anything that using objects) because the Qty On calculations are done outside of the object. In a couple of weeks I will have a ProvideX version prototyped for specific versions of MAS. They will be auto-run versions of at least Recalculate Qty on PO and Recalculate Qty on SO. It might be the entire Rebuild PO Sorts and Rebuild SO Sorts but not 100% sure about that yet and also may include Rebuild Sorts for BM and AR. All of these will be able to run stand-alone and be placed in a scheduler so it can run overnight or whenever. I don't foresee a Job Ops version so I'm sure that will reduce demand. Anyway contact me directly if you think you're interested and I will give you more details.

Thanks for the update Alnoor. My biggest need right now is not a JobOps customer... however..they do have multi-bin from Hightow...uh i mean SWK. Seems as though that is an item I would need to look into before using your utility.

I have tied down my issue to JobOps's ""make to stock"" invoices that arent aupdatimg the qty on so correctly.

I have a Sage 100 Adv 4.5.0.7 client who is interested in having the S/O, P/O and W/O Sorts Rebuild run automatically (with Recalcs) - at least on a weekly basis. I initially suggested just using something like Macro Express, but they'd actually be more interested in something that's more integrated. I'll contact you directly, @AlnoorCassim.

    Good morning everyone,
Seems like Sage will never be able to determine why the On S/O, P/O, etc. becomes inaccurate and therefore the reason for the rebuild sort files utility.  There are several threads on this in 90minds - and rightly so - inquiring if anyone has been successful in an automated task to run the rebuild sort files utility.

Has anyone been able to get an automated task/batch file or something to rebuild sort files?  @Alnoor Cassim you get my vote and my dollar if you have any update on whether you've been able to create something like this.  Any news on this topic would be much appreciated.

This can be automated using the Sage 100 LM task schedulers which in turn uses the Windows task scheduler.

It's still out there as an open idea on Sage City:
Sage 100: Automatically run rebuild sort files
    V1ideas remove preview
Sage 100: Automatically run rebuild sort files
Since some of the fields in inventory such as on S/O, on P/O, etc. do periodically get out of sync with reality for whatever reason, it would be nice if there was some way to automatically run this at night when everyone is out of the system on a regular basis.

@Jane Scanlan and @Brett Zimmerman  You are correct!  I just checked.  It's the rebuild search index that I have automated not the rebuild sort files.  I can't be;lieve we still don;t have a way to either fix this issue or automate the solution!

@Jane Scanlan - I've had it working successfully for a long time, ever before my 2012 post on this thread.

However it won't work on systems for most of your customers because they have 3rd parties that both modify and password protect the Rebuild Sorts programs, which doesn't allow me then to reproduce the code to run in an unattended, schedulable way. As an example, the stock Rebuild Sorts for SO is called SOZUZA and is conducive for creating an auto-run version from it. However it does not run as business object code (doesn't use classes) and this means Scanco mostly, instead of creating an MD override, has to directly modify the program, for purpose of adding their own routines for recalc'ing their own stuff beyond the std Qty on SO recalc. I've seen it for JobOps / Ops Mgmt and for Multi-Bin/Whse Mgmt. That's good of them but then they password it too and now both the stock program and their overlay is passworded and invisible to me. They are very averse about sharing it with other MDs so this is a dead end.

A 2nd way to deal with this is they could just share how they they calc their routines so I could just code that into my auto-run program. Also a dead end.
A 3rd way is Sage could rewrite stock Rebuild Sorts to use business objects. Then anyone create a BOI script/app to rebuild and schedule at night.

The 4th way is the only one that can work in your case. It been talked about here in HL / SocialCast before and used successfully by some people here, to use a keyboard/mouse recorder application such as Macro Express and pay the $70. You would record a macro/script to actually start up Sage, start Rebuild Sorts, choose your module, click Proceed, choose Yes to recalc open qtys or whatever the question is, let it finish, choose the next module, rinse and repeat until your done. Then you schedule the macro to run unattended at night. It's suitable if you have only a few company codes.

In short (and unfortunately), if there's no Scanco, there's a good chance I have a solution. What I always do to verify if ask for the SOZUZA, POZUZA, and IMZUZA/B files and check to see if their passworded.

Last thing is 80% of the requests I get for Auto-Run Rebuild Sorts are for customers using Scanco so conclude what you will about that in terms of Qty On SO / Qty on PO, etc being off frequently.

I'm sure rewriting automated sorts rebuild is tricky since it seems like it would require code changes on the part of most MD. However, this is IMO the EXACT type of modification 90 Minds should be advocating for and not letting our foot up off the gas until we can get it accepted as an enhancement request by Sage.

Why are we not advocating for this type of enhancement which in my experience touches the greatest number of Sage 100 users?

Adding my 2 cents that lots of customers distrust their "ON SO" or "IN SHIPPING" numbers in Sage, so a schedulable RBSF utility for any of the inventory facing modules should definitely be a Sage top priority.

HOWEVER it wouldn't be a "new" feature that would sell more Sage 100 licenses, so that's why we are all still collectively in this boat (just over 10 YEARS now since the original post in this thread!) waiting for Sage.
