Has anyone ever had issues with Shadow Protect by Storage Craft? I'm troubleshooting an extreme slowdown issue on Premium/SQL v2015. Windows Server 2012 R2 with SQL 2014. Both SQL and App Server run on the same VMWare VM. There is a range of time during the day between 11:15 - 11:25am where issue occurs daily and they end up rebooting server. Today I delayed their reboot and noticed speed resumed about 11:35am. Also noticed a lot of disk activity during this window with raw_agent_svc.exe which looks like is the Backup Agent for Storage Craft. There is no backup job configured on this VM but ""feels like"" the Agent is doing an incremental / differential backup image snapshot during this 20 minute window. I asked their IT if there is a backup job configured on another server pointing to this one and they are checking. Have run into this with other b/u software but never used Storage Craft before. @SteveIwanowski I think you've used Storage Craft before. Does it have a log file for remote agent jobs or write to a Windows event log?

It could be StorageCraft ShadowProtect or a third-party that uses the same engine, like Datto. Either one would have central management that would dictate the backup schedule and collect logs, although you should at least see service and VSS SQL Writer activity in the local System and Application logs (which prove a backup event has occurred). The easiest thing to try would be to disable the StorageCraft services (Raw Agent, ImageReady and Shadow Copy Protection) right around that time.

And just by the time of day, I'd look at antivirus/malware scanners, including Windows Defender (since it's 2012 R2).
