    Has anyone changed the default Sales Order type from Standard to Quote and have it retain that default on the next logon?

    Yes, in Version 2014 this works.

    Yes, in 2016. Are you talking about the Defaults button? Are you saying Yes to the prompt after you change that default setting? Maybe try changing it back to standard and then quote again so you are prompted.

    Yes. Definitely works in 2016 when using the Defaults button.
