Group Communications: GroupMe During meeting of the minds we can all stay in touch - when arriving to the airport and outside of the class - via GroupMe. I can add you to the group - I just need your cell phone number If you have a smartphone and are using GroupMe it will not use up any SMS Otherwise GroupMe broadcasts SMS messages to the group and therefore you will only want to join this if you have unlimited text. If you are interested, please set this up ahead of time so you have joined the group. That way when you step off the plain you'll be able to message everyone and know where everyone has all gone - shared ride, food, etc.

Ok, I installed and registered it on Android. How to we all join a common group?

I just added you. If the phone number is in my address book (and I don't have everyone) then I get a notice you joined. If not then leave your phone # (cell) that you joined with and I'll add anyone.

These group chats can get noisy so the key thing is if you have GroupMe on your smartphone - get familiar with how to mute alerts -- on the iPhone you can turn off notifications in two ways: 1. For all your GroupMe activity for only a set amount of time (recommended) -- from the main Groupme screen click in the upper left on the icon that looks like an index card and then select ""Sleep Mode"" and from the sub-menu select the period of time to turn off notifications. This is useful for when you are going to sleep and keeping your phone on but don't want someone chit-chat to interrupt you at 2am .. 2. If you are already a GroupMe user and want to keep notifications for other groups -- just not the MOTM -- then go to the MOTM group - click the ""gear"" icon in the upper right. You can shut down all notifications for the group. Just remember that this turns them off without a time limit so you'll need to remember to go back in and turn it back on.

This will primarily be helpful when you're landing in the airport to find out who is around -- and during the time we're meeting and not together in the room (to find out where people are going for dinner, etc).

Wayne, kept the phone number but now have a Droid. Is there anything else I need to do other than downloading the app?

I don't think you need to do anything extra -- I meant to test on Sunday again. The main thing is be sure you see how to mute the app just in case it gets noisy. I'll send out a test again.

@JeffSchwenk I tried to re-add you but I'm not sure if it worked. Let me know if you get the Groupme test I just sent.
