Interesting that this seems the release of "Sage 100cloud only" features. I'm sure there are some features for the product overall however Sage is putting on a full court press to add Sage 100cloud only features.

My sense is Sage must have a material number of perpetual customers left and don't want to risk them walking away by forcing them onto subscription.

I can't remember a marketing person taking control of this product like Timothy seems to be doing.

Q: Why don't long-time customers on perpetual receive these new features and funtionality? They are definitely being punished for being on perpetual even though they continue to pay for their Sage subscription.
A: New features are a benefit of subscription licensing.
    Audience Question
Q: Is the production managment module replacing Work Order available on the SQL platform? If not, when?
A: Product Management is available on the SQL platform today
    Audience Question
Q: What is meant by Open Code Base? What code is OPEN?
A: Source Code is open to our development community
    Audience Question
Q: Did Timothy say that Production Mgmt replaces Inventory Advisor?
A: No, he said that IRP will work more closely with Inventory Advisor
    Audience Question
Q: Does the expansion effect all name fields? Like Ship To Name, Bill To Name, etc?
A: It effects all name fields
    Audience Question
Q: Will there be any type of utility to update the new expiration date field with a UDF value? Customers currently add a UDF to the lot table to store this.
A: No utility planned at this time to move those values ... every customer applied their own strategy and naming convention
    Audience Question
Q: Is the eInvoicing interface open, so that APS can substitute instead of Paya?
    A: Not in this release
    Audience Question
Q: eInvoicing was writting in v2019, so once it is released will it be for clients on v2019 or 2020? Hoping so.
A: It will be available in 2019.3 as well as 2020
    Audience Question
Q: Why don't long-time customers on perpetual receive these new features and funtionality? They are definitely being punished for being on perpetual even though they continue to pay for their Sage subscription.
A: New features are a benefit of subscription licensing.
    Audience Question
Q: Are International addresses still planned to be included in 2020
A: The expanded fields are part of the international address enhancement, so yes, both are included.
    Audience Question
Q: Can we get a copy of this PowerPoint?
A: We are recording this session, and we will make the slides available as well.
    Audience Question
Q: For PII, is there any plan to help deal with ODBC access to that data (from outside of Sage 100)?
A: We are looking at that for Payroll, etc. for Consumer Privacy, we would be violating those requirements if we allowed decryption unless the consumer consented.
    Audience Question
Q: Treating customers as customer - how about the pain points for perpetual customers?
A: We do try to provide pain point enhancements for all customers where appropriate.

This is pretty much Timothy's Thrive On presentation, which is fine with me. What is a bit different from other roadmap presentations is that he has (so far) not gone far into the product weeds - which I think is situationally appropriate.

That's a good thing!  She's a boring presenter and Timothy does a good job.  There are many different formats you can go with:  Question/Answer, Feature-Benefit, Proposition-Proof and this one was more Objection-Answer which is a great format.  I JUST WISH HE WOULDN'T PUT UP A QUESTIONS SLIDE!  That said, he's actually using slides in the deck to answer questions.  Kudos to Timothy!

I agree. presenting a roadmap is a communications problem, not and expertise display. As long as the presentation is vetted by the experts (Prdt Mgt), the audience benefits from the best presenter and explainer of the key information available.
This change is long overdue ...

Please note that Sage 100cloud for Manufacturing comes with SCANCO multi-bin ....
Sage indicates no present plans to offer an upgrade/migration path for existing users who might want to move to these bundles
It's possible Sage will allow present customers to upgrade in the future

Sage Support PLUS = first-year unlimited support ( included with purchase ). Second and subsequent year support is optional.  ( WES: We won't know the $$ impact of this until Sage makes SLP available).

    Expect March 18, 2020 release for Sage 100cloud 2020

Michelle, I understand why you might think this. The presentation had much more marketing-speak in it than "roadmap" presentations usually have. However, I think it was appropriate this time: its thrust was trying to explain how they are trying to make Sage 100cloud viable for new customer sales.

Only a few years ago Sage made it very clear to us, and competing sales reps we encounter in the field, that Sage was milking the product line for cash, adding very little to its functionality. Who wants to buy an ERP package where the parent is essentially saying, "we are enhancing our other products, not this one"? Answer: almost nobody,

Timothy was laying out Sage 100cloud's conceptual positioning (messaging) that they think will give them a fighting chance for new customers. I think it is of the strongest attempt at this I've seen in a decade. I'm still skeptical, but it's far from crazy; they are no longer burying their heads in the sand.

This is the same presentation Timothy made at the ThriveOn sessions. Put baldly, it is a key part of Sage's effort to renew confidence in its channel to stop its bleeding away. Will it work? I have no idea, but it's better than the alternative - keep doing what they were daying.

Timothy also said that he wants to have monthly product sessions. These would presumably be far more detail-oriented, with perhaps less meaningless info in them.

That's a good summation Jerry.  I hear all the time that Sage 100 isn't a "cloud" product!  What is a cloud product, something you use a URL to access?  Therefore they are using language like "cloud enabled", "best of both worlds, cloud or on-prem", and I really like "industry solution" versus bundle.  It's clear to me that they are making a great product greater and an effort to get back in the game.  They've also got me believing that they are becoming more "partner centric".

Sage claims 30,000 Sage 100 users as of January 2020.
There was no breakdown of Sage 100 v Sage 100cloud

This is in comparison to the 24,600 they announced back in 2018 which I believe was on a Sage Summit slide deck

Customers on perpetual have had years of warning and promotions to switch to subscription. The only mistake Sage made was to continue supporting them and not making it mandatory at some point.

The big mistake they made with perpetual was treating their subscriptions the same as new customers.  Sure, force them to subscription, but also don't put them into read-only mode when they go off plan (the first time).  Just lock them into that version.  (If they come back later, their one time grandfathering of perpetual rights are then gone).
We have one customer who is (rightfully) outright angry at Sage, having paid significant perpetual fees, only to be given the choice of:
    • giving up perpetual rights, which they paid for.
    • not having all the new features that Sage is locking as subscription only.
They have gone off-plan (out of principle), which is a net loss to Sage, due to poor management of perpetual customers.

An economist would be appalled by some of the decisionmaking of these remaining Perpetual customers. It smacks of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

First, sunk costs have nothing to do with any decision. It is only the costs and resulting benefits you expect going forward. To do otherwise is literally "throwing good money after bad."

A customer in this situation has only these 4 options to consider:
    1. bite the bullet and change to subscription.
    2. Stay on legacy M&S payments.
    3. Drop M&S completely.
    4. Change from Sage 100 to something else.

So, consideration of at least these questions are relevant. They should be estimated over at least a 3-year frame, if not 5.
    - What do I expect my costs to be for each scenario? This includes not just Sage's "taxes" but supporting IT costs (after all, a change would likely include hosting fees, implicit or explicit), and consultant/training costs.

    - What soft costs are associated with each? As a jumping-off thought, one of these options will deliver less usage trouble than the others, and another will create more. What is the likely scale of these? Downtime, data problems, integration issues, employee training time, etc. are included.

    - What are the differences in what I get out of the system with each option? If a company is just going to keep doing what they've been doing, that's one thing. But if they are expanding, needing added functionality (say, streamlining inventory), expanding usage to other types of user, changing information needed for management, etc, then they must be careful about how they get there.

It is our responsibility to help these customers walk through this stressful decisionmaking process. None of us brought the problem on, but it's here and simply getting mad at this new reality will only hurt the customer eventually. Help them move past their "victimhood", whining, and avoidance of the future so they can come out of these changes in a better place than they've ever been.

Sage is not going to change its policy regarding this. So embrace and make the most of this new situation.
