  • 1.  GL Account Key in VI imports

    Posted 05-30-2024 15:28

I was just wondering out loud here (slow day).  Now that Sage has gone as far as they will go with the BOI rewrite, why don't they change the length of the GL account key for VI imports?  It remains defined at 9.  For many years, my workaround was to import as a temp field and then calculate the account number.  It worked great, but lately, that is not working.  I change the field length and go on.

So why not modify the code to 41 (or whatever the maximum length is) and make everyone happy.

    Not easy?  Too lazy?  Unaware?

I haven't used the account key when importing for a long time.  Typically I can just import the Account by pointing to the column in the source file.  Make sure to check the Skip Source Data Truncation option on the Configuration tab.

Exactly.  On tab 1 enable the Skip Source Data Truncation option, so Sage will "see" more than the 9 characters... and automatically translate the source data account value into accountkey, without having to use the Temp field.

Well duh!!!!  Thanks for the heads up.

So it comes down to this will never be redefined due to this check box.  When would you not want to select the check box?  Why not default it on?  Why not import the entire field.  If it fits, great.  Too big, auto truncate?
