Gibberish Printing Reports from Sage 100

v2020 Standard.  User uses remote Desktop to the Sage 100 server. When he prints reports, such as the Inventory Turnover Report, to his home printer, he gets garbage.  Previewing and exporting to PDF on the server prints fine.

I tried checking the "No Printer" box in Crystal Reports, Page Setup and that doesn't help.

The printer drivers on the Sage server and his local machine are working and in synch, and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the volume of data being sent.

Update - I believe I know the root of the issue and am searching for the solution. It appears something went awry with the Crystal Reports converter.  If I copy over the inventory turnover report from v2015 and then and yes to the prompt to convert the report, the report prints fine. Some of the other reports that produce gibberish must of not fully converted.  Trying to figure out the best way to re-convert.  The MASCR.EXE program thinks the reports were already converted.

To reconvert a report click File - Summary Info and delete they Keywords then save.  There should be a prompt the next time it is used to convert...

Thanks @Kevin Moyes  I know how to do that.  The issue is I don't know which ones or how many of these are messed up. I certainly don;t want to have to change the Report Info for every report, but it may come to that.  We tested some random Inventory reports and some work and some don't.  Also, I tested the inventory valuation report and compressed print doesn't work but not compressed (landscape) works fine.

Is there a missing font on the machine?

Yes - the new standard inventory reports will be using the "Sage" font, but the old reports (which do not actually get converted unless they are customized) will be MS Sans Serif/Arial.

@Beth Bowers  I see.  There is a "Sage Reporting" font.

Any of the fonts used in the reports that print gibberish.  Beth is probably referring to the "Sage Reporting" font that Sage added (for narrow printing) but I have seen bad output with what should be standard Windows fonts (TNR, Arial, MS Sans...) that somehow became corrupted.

I just had the same yesterday with a customer connecting from home using Citrix. Turns out that printing to PDF was fine, printing from the office was fine but when printing to the home printer everything was gibberish. Their IT concluded that it must be some font that is not on the printer or is getting lost somehow between the server and the remote Citrix connection. They are getting the home user a different printer since other remote users were not having the same issue

Thanks @Kenny Daniel  Interesting they are getting a new printer if it is an issue with the font.  I am currently using the theory that the issue has something to do with the report conversion marking the report as converted but not actually converting it.  So far it seems like when I change the Crystal report info  from 6.2 to 5.2 and the re-convert, the report prints fine.  I cant see the report, I print it to the end user's printer then send him an email and ask if it printed OK.

I have received permission to install my office printer on the terminal server, so tomorrow I will see if I can re-create the issue printing to my office.  I should be able to track it down tomorrow if I can recreate the issue on my printer.

Solved.  The new "Sage Reporting" font in v2020 is the culprit.  The end user is working remotely via the VPN / RDP using a laptop that Sage 100 v2020 was never installed on, thus, the Sage Reporting font is not on his laptop.

Since Crystal renders the reports on the client computer, the Sage Reporting font needs to be installed on his laptop.   The resolution is, to open Control Panel, Fonts, on a computer with Sage 100 v2020 installed and copy the Sage Reporting font (SageReporting.ttf) to the Control Panel, Fonts folder on the computer it is missing on.

Because the Sage Reporting font  is not installed on Windows by default, I imagine this issue is going to be common.

Thanks for the update @Doug Higgs. I will inform my customer's IT dept. I doubt they went out and bought a printer this quickly. The only odd thing about this (in my case) is that other remote users were not seeing the same issue. Probably they all had Sage100 installed on their PC at some point .

This may seem obvious, but why isn't the font installed during Sage 100 workstation setup?

The font is installed during workstation setup.  If you are working from a remote location with a computer that
has never had workstation setup run on it then the font would not be installed on it.  If the user is on a version prior to 2020 it didn't matter because Sage 100 reports used a standard font, not a Sage Reports custom font.  It's kind of amazing that Sage couldn't use one of the hundreds of existing standard fonts that get installed by default.

I had a client with the same issue today, and it isn't only an issue at 2020.  At least some of the inventory reports at 2018 have the Sage Reporting font, namely the valuation report and stock status report.

Good to know.  I'm not up to speed on what fonts are used in what reports / versions.
@Barb Rippberger. Did copying the font to the remote computer solve the issue?

I'm not sure if that resolved the issue.  He was able to print to pdf as a work around, so I passed along the information, but not sure if he has tried it yet.  That Sage font seems like it could be a big pain!
