In case you're not all aware (as I wasn't), see the below screen-shot/setting for disabling AvaTax during VI imports. v2017.4 client was having some issues with S/O Entry-Lines import for existing records, where it was taking an extremely long time and doing some odd things on-screen (e.g. status meter goes away, import appears to freeze, etc.) of which was not necessarily the same results in the live company vs. a copy of the live company. It also seemed like the volume of data contributed to the performance/issues.
