FYI - Received this email from on of my IT guys!
New Malware: Locky Ransomeware
Hi everyone. We recently came across a new type of ransomeware very similar to the CryptoWall virus we've emailed you about in the past. This new virus is called Locky and is very similar to CryptoWall such that it encrypts the files on your computer and holds them for ransom until you pay a fee. This new Locky virus has the ability to encrypt unmapped shared folders, making it much more dangerous than CryptoWall.
The method of delivery we've seen with this virus is via email with a Word file attachment. The attachment will typically be named Invoice or something along those lines. You should also expect the email delivering the virus to possibly come from someone within your own company. Your computer gets infected by doubleclicking on the attached Word file containing the malicious code.
Please be very careful when opening up email attachments, even from someone within your own company. If there is an email attachment you're not sure about, please take the time to confirm with the person sending you the email first. For more information in the Locky virus, please feel free to contact us. Also, check out the link below for more detailed information on Locky and to see a real example of an email containing the malicious attachment.
