Health Care Reform New 2012 Form W-2 Requirements As part of the Health Care Reform law, the Form W-2 Reporting Provision requires certain employers to report the total value of an individual employee's health benefits on their Form W-2. The goal is for employees to gain awareness of the true cost of health coverage. Effective for tax year 2012, the following applies: Employers that filed 250 or more Forms W-2 for the previous tax year must include the cost of employer-sponsored health coverage on Forms W-2; Employers filing less than 250 Forms W-2 are not required to report the cost of coverage.

Not quite sure what the point of it is? Any employer worth working for is already communicating to their employees what the cost of this benefit is! Am I the only one who did this back in the day on an annual basis? The number was huge back then and even bigger now. I always sent out an annual employee benefit letter.

I hated getting a letter telling me the value of the employer portion of social security and medicare payments and the value of the unemployment insurance and workman's comp and all the other things that never hit my pocket. Medical on the other hand is huge.
