FYI - Inventory issue 4.30 and 4.50 Customers are just amazing on what they can do in MAS and what MAS will allow them to do. I have a client that has kits and some times when they add the item to the sales order they say explode kit. Then they delete the components because they really want to ship the Kit item that they realize they have in stock. When you move to shipping, invoicing you get NO error. When you update the invoice file all looks good except the cost for the item is Zero and it never gets taken out of inventory.... So you have shipped the item out - you can see it in invoice history as a line item going out but nothing is recorded in inventory.... So spent XX hours trying to find out what and how this could happened and now the customer wants to know HOW CAN THE SOFTWARE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!!!! I said my thoughts exactly and call Sage!!!

Yep, Old issue. Same thing happens if they explode the kit on the SO, then decide to swap out a component for another. So they delete old and insert the new. Nothing to stop you except your costing is now screwed up. Worse is when no one admits to doing the deed. Then you spend time researching only to get this reaction from the client. Welcome to the school of hard knocks. Being able to explode the kit on the SO is a GREAT feature. However, it is a CLASSIC example of Sage NEVER taking it to a v2.0 release by eliminating the quirks. All you can do is train the users to NEVER delete or add a line. Delete the parent item only then re add to the SO. Below sums up my feeling regarding Sage.

I dunno - I think I'd have to side with Sage on this one. Client DID say explode at the time they picked the kit. And you do want to be able to change components, if needed, so deleting has to be allowed. The info about whether it's an exploded kit or not is saved on the line item when entered - I don't see that Sage should make the decision that because you deleted all of the components, that means you now want to sell from stock. I know, I know. Me sticking up for Sage. Must have started the Friday drinks early.

@BethBowers I agree with you to a point - but you would think it would give you a error message.. How can is show a item shipped and not effect inventory... This is an accounting system so I thought !!! Sorry I haven't started drinking yet, so can't look at it totally like you are, but am ready for happy hour!!!

Sure, Sure, Sure, TAKE their side......... This issue has existed since the stone ages of MAS. It IS an issue that SHOULD be addressed. The problem is that there is coding on the parent item line that indicates that the item is a kit. So when you delete a line(s), this code is not modified. As with many things Sage, the code should be fine tuned to at least pop a panel WARNING you of the danger.....

I know - it's just because it's already marked as exploding. If you look in the sales by Item by CUSTOMER, it will be there.

Well sure that is a sales order report right? All the other modules think is was sold.... All the inventory reports did not show it. I understand it is user error but they should get a error or program it to switch the flag back since there is no components....

http://dsdinc.com/enh/by-module/sales-order/es-so-1068.html Is what I've used when customers want to see the individual component sales history.

Isn't there a flag now in v4.5 to display component history?

No, it's supposed to be in the inventory files, but only by item by customer file. That's how kits normally work, anyway - the components show up on the regular inventory history files, and the kit itself shows up if you choose to print by customer. In Inventory.
