I think you are 100% correct. We will un-install and re-install to the Programs(x86) directory. I am hoping that will take care of it. As always - Thanks Wayne :)

Kathleen, I have tried to install FRx 6.78 on a Windows 64 bit desktop with a network shared Sysdata folder and have not been sucessfull to date. What I have been able to do is to install locally on a Windows 64 bit with the Sysdata folder local as well. To do this here are the steps I used. Install Version 6.78, C:\FRx. Install Service Pack 9. Install Hot fix for 9. Install Service Pack 11. When I run the installers I run the executable as Administrator, right click on the executable and in Windows 7 you have a option to run the program as Administrator. This method works if it is a one user otherwise you may not be able to.

Un-installed and re-installed (as Admin) to Programs (x86) directory. Got the following message at the end of the SP11 installation: ""Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {47E313F-9250-4C*C-281889A3C289} failed due to the following error : 80040154"" We are now going to try (3rd times a charm!!) to install with workstation in XP mode........x86 is the 32 bit directory, so if this doesn't work, I am up a creek!

We don't even try to mess with FRx on W7. It is not supported and generally creates all kinds of headaches trying to install. Even if you get it to work you run the risk of data corruption in Sysdata. Use virtual XP on the W7 instead.

We finally got it runnin' on Windows 7; but in XP mode. SYSData directory is installed locally as well. Just not worth it to fiddle around trying to tweak it to run with the SYSData directory on the Server, if there's any chance at all of data corruption. Client is happy, so I'm happy :-)

Extremely wierd. Just talked with my client who installed it on a 64 OS workstation, sysdata is on the network and they claim it is running very well..................

Love to know how they did it. No one else here seems to be able to accomplish that feat!

I too have a client whose IT department got it working on Windows 7 64-bit, but he's not telling how he got it to work. Has anyone gotten it to work since this original post?

I have gotten it to work. I think the main thing was making sure it wasn't installed in the program files directory and that UAC was off.

After @DawnAnastasi threw down the guantlet, I went back and verified the settings. UAC was off and FRx was not in the program files folder. I fired it up and it threw the infamous error 8900. I verified my ODBC settings and tested the tables in the ODBC connection. Tried to open FRx a second time. This time it opened.(a first). I then tried to run a catalogue report. Another error 8900. Tried it a second time and it worked. Maybe you just have to try running it twice every time. Go figure.

I did one a couple of weeks ago. The IT guy did the initial install and SP11 all local in the Programs(x86) folder. Emailed me and said it couldn't see the registration, to which I replied and said the registration info is in the sysdata folder on the network share. I went onsite, ran the FRxreg67.cmd, changed the sysdata path to the network location and everything worked. I also told them they were using an unsupported platform and data corruption could occur.

I was just talking with Sage yesterday regarding Win 7 machines and FRx. That said I was informed that their is a SP 12, can get it from Microftsoft not Sage. I hoping to install FRx on my Win 7 64 bit, so far been unsuccessful, outside of Program Files (86) or inside.

My experience is that I have to install (try to install) SP11 (typically unsuccessful the 1st time), then copy the msxml.dll file into system 32, then run SP11 again and it actually works the second time. I've probably had 4-5 windows 7 64-bit machines where I ran into this and had to jump through these hoops to get it to work.

by unsucessful I mean it appears to install correctly, but when you look at the version in FRx it is not updated to 6.7.11, only after steps 2 and 3 does it recognize as being the updated version of FRx

One of the install issues that I ran into with the SP's is that the default FRx install path was OFF one level than the actual destination. I probably spent a day and a half installing/uninstalling before I realized what was happening. After modifying the default install path for the SP, it installed properly.
