OK, so we have a customer who is in love with the Zombie product "FRx Financial Reporting."  I am trying to move it onto a Terminal Server running Windows 2016 and it really doesn't want to work.  Has anyone installed this product on a Windows 2016 server?  If so, can you share the trick?

Not recently but my trick was always to install the core FRX then the latest SP then go from there. Sometimes that was all it took and other times there may have been a patch or two required.

I haven't had luck installing on Terminal Server since Server 2012, fully patched.  There was a specific update that broke it at that time for my client.  Can the client spin up a virtual W10 machine for use?
If you can install on W10 and put the SysData out on the Sage Server, you should be able to run it.  I have sometimes had to install 6.7.4 first, then either 6.7.8 or go with Patch 12.  6.7.8 has given me problems on W10 occasionally for initial install.

Here are the notes I have.  I am sure these instructions were created by someone else, possibly another 90 Minds member.  I apologize for not remembering who it is that should be given the credit.  The instructions below have helped me several times over the last 10 years or so since MS stop supporting FRx.

Install FRx v6.7.8 to the new network location.
Apply the latest service pack v6.7.8 SP 12 immediately after installation.
Using Windows Explorer, browse to the new SysData directory.
Move all files from the new SysData directory into a backup directory.
Copy all files from the old SysData directory into the new SysData directory. Leave the old FRx install and SysData directory intact.
Browse to the new FRx directory. Register all DLLs found in the FRx directory. Download the batch file to register all the DLL files.
Note: FRx 6.0 service packs released in April 2002 and later, as well as all FRx 6.5 installations, install a program called FRxReg.exe in the FRx directory. Double-clicking this program registers all DLL files without requiring manual registration of each file.
Launch FRx Designer on the workstation.
Select Company / Information. Click the far-left arrow button to move to the first company.
Type or select the new Import/Export path, and click 'Save'. Repeat for all remaining companies, and click 'Close' to close the Company Information window.
Select Company / Specification Sets. Click the far-left arrow button to move to the first specification set.
Type or select the new location in the 'Location' box; Be sure to leave the file name intact.
Click 'Save'. A message may appear stating that the spec set exists in the new location, and asking if you wish to overwrite - click 'No'.
Repeat steps for each remaining specification set.

    Moving Data
Copy all files from the existing SysData directory to the new SysData directory.
Launch FRx Designer on one computer.
From within Designer, select Admin / Organization.
    Click the 'SysData' button.
Type or select the new SysData path in the 'New Directory' dialog box.
Select the 'Update Current User Only' radio button, and click 'OK'. A message displays stating that FRx will exit after the change is made; click 'OK'.
The 'Update Current User Only' option changes the SysData directory for only the current user. Select this option to change the directory for each user manually. You may wish to do this if you want to remove the existing SysData directory immediately after completing these steps.
    Launch FRx Designer again.
Type or select the new location in the 'Location' dialog box. Be sure to leave the file name intact.
Click 'Save'. A message may appear stating that the spec set exists in the new location, and asking if you wish to overwrite. Click 'No'.
Repeat for each remaining specification set.

My notes are similar to @Doug Higgs. I also have the step to copy msxml.dll (in attached) to SysWOW64 folder and register. This is to fix the drill down viewer.

    copy msxml.dll to c:\windows\syswow64
    cd \windows\syswow64
    regsvr32 msxml.dll

    Chuck,
Did you ever get FRx installed on Windows 2016 server?
Any tips to getting it installed?
    Thanks
