For you Sage HRMS people, can the time and attendance function utilize bio-metric time clocks? I have a prospect that seems to think so but I know nothing (or very little) about the product. @ShawnSlavin do you still carry HRMS?

Yes - there are biometric punch options. It will certainly impact the price of the clock but it's an option.

The Insperity product is very robust. It can also capture time reliably via Web check ins. It handles some very detailed rules about clock in/out.

The bio metric clock is separate functionality from the HRMS system. All you would to do is to match the ""eyeball"", ""fingerprint"" or other biometric measure to the employee number which is then passed to the HRMS or Sage 100 PR system. You could probably get a unit that does a full body scan (a la the TSA). Which ever device your client opts for, make sure they do a thorough functionality test before they spend the big bucks for the system. Back in the day when I sold my first Abra PR system, the casino client bought a bio metric clock that measured fingerprints. Worked great in their test that only included youthful employees. Failed miserably with the majority of their employees who happened to be older citizens whose fingerprints did not scan as well...... Client wasn't very happy......

@ThereseLogeais , sorry for the delay. I was out on vacation. Insperity offers a number of time capture devices include biometrics. As several have pointed out, there are drawbacks as well as benefits. Implementing biometric clocks can sometimes involve working around pushbacks. We have deployed hand sanitizer dispensers next to clocks in healthcare environments. In another instance, we had to create written policies and procedures to ensure that fingerprint data was kept secure to calm privacy concerns. You also need to make sure you use the right technologies in the right environments. Don't' deploy fingerprint readers where hand injuries or heavy dirt / grease is involved. We had a problem in a casino once with clocks that used two finger biometric readers. We would get dealers and waitstaff signed up and registered. A week later, the ladies would get a pedicure with porcelain nails and the clock would no longer recognize them. (Peoples nails don't typically grow by a inch or more over night.) Regardless, be prepared for implementation issues that are unique to the technology.
