For whom is this intended? A reseller that surrenders their right to sell these Sage products but continues to pay Sage fees? Does anyone else see a group of red-headed step-children gathering at the CIP table?

Basically for the privilege of saying you support SAge products you can pay sage and have to go through constant certification programs such as Introduction to using our Knowledgebase of the Month.

*Knowledgebase of the Month training available in twelve separate 3 to 5 minute videos.

So is this a new Certified Consultant program?

That is what I was thinking @DebThomas they are rebranding - CCP to CIP .

I think this is common in the AccPac (300) world. I was talking to a buddy in Vermont yesterday and that's exactly what he wants. He doesn't want to sell. He just wants to install, consult, and support.

I think it is identical to the CCP program but for those that are not actual resellers like Shawn mentioned. For those that are resellers, it seems like you would be raising a red flag for your own account promoting Sage to further relegate your opinions. ... and it may be the first sign of a larger effort to thin the reseller community.

And I resemble that remark, damn it - I've spent a ton of money coloring my red hair - with gray to cover it. :-)

It's for people that service the software but don't resell. I'm not sure what certification Beth Bowers has but I imagine this is something similar, correct? Some people just don't want to deal with the BS of reselling software and want to focus on the service aspect. In a way, those individuals are paving the way for the rest of us. You know, when all our margins are gone. 2016?

    I suck at selling.

I see this as just another profit center for Sage. Reputable consultants don't need Sage affiliations to consult on their products and almost all customers don't care.

Well what about the secret decoder ring that they send in the mail so you can translate the coded messages in the weekly radio spots? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdA__2tKoIU

I have always liked having the Sage certification, but then I also have the Sage Trainer Cert, too, so I'm a glutton for punishment. But it does get me (well, did) some cases with support if I need them (of course, those cases usually all end up being free because I only call about bugs, but still), I get to take the same classes resellers do, etc.

I'd rather buy lottery tickets with that money. At least I'd have a chance to get something of value.

Will CIPs be aligned to the SAGE customers that they support, so they can have access to customer product data for upgrades, etc.?

If that was the case, @MichaelMcDonald wouldn't you need a two-tier record for the customer? One for the Reseller and one for the CIP. As we know, Sage has trouble with multiple levels of information organization.

That's why you can never get the same answer from any two Sage people.

Here's a copy of the guide. I'm still not sure what this brings to the table or if it's just a re-naming of the Certified Consultant role. One thing that's certain is that you appear to still pay the same fees to Sage regardless. http://cdn.na.sage.com/sagemail/SageMail/CIP%20Program%20Overview.pdf

Interesting that one of the ""requirements"" of this program if you become an independent CIP is that you must communicate back to the Sage ROR Business partner before doing any work for the company who contacts you. http://cdn.na.sage.com/sagemail/SageMail/CIP%20Program%20Agreement.pdf

Putting the CIP at the mercy of Sage and the ROR Business Partner? Not an enviable position (if the CIP decides to play by the rules). This does buttress the argument that the ROR Business Partner eventually becomes just a selling organization.
