  • 1.  FAS upgrade question

    Posted 04-05-2019 10:29
For any and all FAS experts:

Client on version 2016.1, and wants to upgrade to 2019.1 version.

"Can they upgrade to 2019.1 directly, or they need to install any versions between 2019 and 2016? "

    Thanks in advance...

    Jeff F

Since you said ANY...Well, Sage always covers their butt by saying to install every version but it's not always necessary.
I think if you backup your file and uninstall the old version, you can usually install the new and open and convert your file without issue.  This keeps the installer from saying you need to be on version Y to get to version Z.
I think in the old days the conversion would see a depreciation method that's not around anymore and freak out, so it had to be eased forward. I think it's smarter than that now.
Did you notice there's a fix out for it already?  To be installed on the client side.
And there are warnings about the Crystal Reports service pack it needs.

Thanks for the quick response.  If you have links to any of the fixes or notes you reference, it would be a great help

I think you have to go to 2017.1.  Although the knowledgebase says: If updating from 2013.0 - 2015.1 the 2017.1 update will be need installed and all database converted prior to updating to version 2019.1. Please See KB ID:80837 How to update to Sage Fixed Assets Network 2017.1 for more details
    It doesn't mention 2016.

Looking at this KB: 89538 it makes me conclude that 2016-2018, at least, doesn't require a stopover. As long as you uninstall 2016 and install 2018.  Upgrading in place is a different story, though.

2016.1 directly to 2018.1.  2018.1 to 2019.1. (there will be a conversion in 2019.1)  Don't forget to install the 2019.1.1 patch for each of the client workstations.

I'm getting ready to do an upgrade for a client currently on 2017.  I cannot find a download for 2018. Do you know if I can I go directly from 2017 to 2019?

What version of 2018 SFA do you need?  I have all of them.  At least the X.0 versions.  Not necessarily the X.1 versions.  We just need to figure out a way to upload.

It may not be necessary to do the 2018 middle upgrade.  if I am reading this correctly.  It seems SFA could be on 2016,2017 or 2018.  Worst case scenario is you get a message that you must go to 2018 first.
