BizInsight/BizNet is not sunsetting, at least not yet, as per an e-mail I just received from an Acct Exec at insightsoftware – in case any of you had gotten wind of that.  This is related to an inquiry that a client of ours made with them as a result of being told it was sunsetting by someone at insight.

    Brett,

If one person at Insight Software says it is sunset and one says it isn't - doesn't this mean there's a 50/50 chance of the news being true?

    For background:

BizNet is a reporting tool based on MS Excel that integrates Sage 100 and other Sage products. It gained popularity around the time that Microsoft discontinued FRx, and Sage customers whose ERP used FRx for financial reporting were forced to find a replacement.

Sage introduce Sage Intelligence as the replacement for FRx. Because it was included "free" with Sage, the SI reporting tool, also based on Excel, appeared to take some wind from the sails of BizNet.

According to the website, Biznet offers three main products:

    • BizInsight
    • BizConnector
    • BizBroadcast

In March 2019, BizNet was acquired by insightsoftware for an undisclosed amount.  The press release indicates BizNet had 2,800 customers at the time of acquisition.  The same press release indicates insightsoftware had 155,000 enterprise users at 5,500 companies (presumably customers) at the time of the BizNet purchase.

insightsoftware's playbook of buying up a lot of competitors looks pretty similar to Sage's. There is a new CEO at insightsoftware

Michael Sullivan succeeds Jim Triandiflou, who has been CEO since 2020. Under Triandiflou's leadership, insightsoftware meaningfully increased revenue, successfully completed 12 acquisitions to extend its software offerings and expanded its global employee base. Sullivan and Triandiflou have worked closely on the leadership transition.

So far, only our SQL Clients have received the email from Insight, suggesting the demise of BizNet.  And I think it most likely is just an aggressive move on Insight's part to get the SQL folks to upgrade to their SpreadSheet product.  We spoke to our client rep at Insight, who says there is not really another alternative to BizNet for Providex, in the same price range, other than Infor's F9 product.  And that because of that, our rep says they will not be discontinuing the product, and in fact just hired more support staff specifically allocated to BizNet.

Doesn't the situation laid out here mean that if a customer wants to keep BizNet, they will endure years of price hikes with no significant feature improvements? The customer wants the Premium customers to upgrade, and they know the Providex customers will either leave or stay. If they stay, it's largely because of organizational inertia, and they'll pay for the privilege of not thinking about changing.

Like so many other elements of the Sage 100 "experience," the price of doing nothing is going up. If a customer is going to pay for reporting, they should at least ensure that they are getting the most benefit they can from the expense.
