We are seeing something similar when the description is placed in the secondary grid. All kinds of funky things are happening. Is this part of the problem? Extended descriptions are not stored in grid – I know – but it could affect the item code....
Also, do you have an extended description that does not have a key that could be linking to items that don't have a key?
Not sure if this is a thing, but is there an extended description table in BOM separate from Item maintenance?

Have a client with an item that keeps displaying the wrong description when entered on a line in Bill of Materials.
I've looked for that ext description in the Extended Desc file and deleted all 3 records which had that description (none of which were the Key associated with the item). I totally cleared the Ext Desc in Item Maintenance, made sure Key was 0000000000, and then added the description back in and noted it had a new key.
And yet - it persisted. I made sure to get out of Bills Maintenance and back in, in case Sage didn't refresh reading the Ext Desc file.
So I ask - WHERE IN ALL THAT IS HOLY IS SAGE GETTING THIS BOGUS EXTENDED DESCRIPTION??????
