Expiration Date in User Maintenance

    Hi all!  Any and all insight is appreciated :)
    I don't understand the limitation that this field places in the user's access to the system; perhaps some assumptions are getting in the way.  If a Company/Role combination for a user has an Expiration Date, how exactly does the system limit access (such as in the screenshot)?  Should the system stop an ODBC connection from outside of the Sage 100, i.e. Excel or another program using the SOTAMAS90 ODBC connection?

    Seems to make logical sense........  What happens if you lock the user out.  Is the desired objective (i.e. blocked ODBC access) achieved then?  Maybe ODBC blocking access only works if you turn on ODBC security?

    Yes, sadly, the expired user can access data through the ODBC connection from a program outside of Sage 100.  If the user account is locked, the ODBC access ceases.

    Eye roll emoji.  I guess deactivating accounts is the safer method.  I never really found a reason to use the dates, but you would think they'd do what they're supposed to do!

    I've always scratched my head at ODBC security.  Turn on unified login and every password is permanent (or blank)!

    No doubt.  But the problem with bugs is many times they are determined to be WAD's.  So do you take the time to report.  With luck, they admit it is a bug and will fix in the 202X (current year plus 2) release.  If they do fix, it pops back up a year later.  So the attitude becomes "Why bother reporting".  Perhaps an issue for the 90Mod squad..........

    The customer doesn't utilize ODBC security, so I'm not certain.

    @Michelle Taylor does @Wayne Schulz's question about the actual user expiration (vs. company/role expiration) make a difference? If a locked user cannot access externally, does an expired user still have access (with or without ODBC security)? ​​

    HI @Therese Logeais  Unfortunately, the customer has since been affected by a network wide computer "virus."​  So, as soon as we can connect to test this other Expire Date field, I will post again :)
