Kevin - I don't know if this helps but all the "v" tables are not BIE views. Rather they are base BIR (Business Insights Reporter) views (ProvideX views) that appear in the dictionary for non-Premium installs.
With Excel looks like you are using MS Query Wizard so maybe you can't see column list and data that way but I can when I choose Data tab, Get Data, From Other Sources, From ODBC, choose SOTAMAS90 then Navigator appears. I see regular list of tables and these views starting with "v" and since I've used BIR before to create reports, also see those starting with "view:" It also returns the data in the view. I'm running Office 365 / Excel 2016 with latest updates running against v2017 Adv.
To see the columns ahead of time you can:
1. File > Run > SYZCON type VU and Enter. Don't modify anything, choose the
Warehouse Information group then
ItemWarehouse then dbl-click for fields
2. Use Crystal Reports.
3. Go thru the BIR wizard (under Business Insights \ Business Insights Reporter) using that same view until you get to the Select Fields screen.

Thanks for the tip Moira... that seems to be in reference to a Sage Intelligence issue.
Installed (as well as Microsoft Updates to Office), and the problem persists.

There is an Excel compatibility patch I've installed with Excel 64 bit. See attached.
