Excel 2010 64 OS ODBC driver - Does anyone have a way of using the 32 bit MAS driver with Excel 64?

I've been asking the same question for a month. This is what I've learned so far.... No. I will be uninstalling my 64bit MS Ofc and installing 32 bit instead. The only solution I've found.

Must install the 32 bit version of Excel. Cannot use a 64 bit app with 32 bit ODBC.

Rats........... Forgot this specification when asking for Excel to be installed on the 64 bit server. But of course, the IT department didn't ask.......................................

The MAS ODBC driver is only 32-bit and will not work with the 64-bit driver. I found this out the hard way also and had to un-install the 64-bit MS Office and re-install the 32-bit version. Maybe one day Sage will release a 64-bit ODBC driver.

Yea, and one day I'll be able to retire like Mike Fitzgerald too.................

I thought Mike was working a kiosk at the mall.

I hear 5.0 but may be pushed back to 5.1 Pvxplus.com has a 64-bit odbc download. I have not tried yet. I think u can buy the odbc for a few hundred dollars.

Here's an update from Mike King in LinkedIn: You are correct that we (Pvx Plus Technologies) does have a 64 Bit ODBC driver, and while it does work with MAS90/200 it does not support MAS90 security. The security system is handled by a DLL and since the DLL provided with MAS90 is 32 Bit only it is not able to be used by our 64 Bit ODBC driver. Other than that the ODBC driver does work and we have sold it to a number of Mas90/200 clients. http://goo.gl/1UhbK

Well it is nice to know that PVX works in a 64 bit environment. Now we just have to wait for Sage to catch up..................

I'm wondering since PVX Plus ODBC ignores MAS security, does it creates a backdoor for those who are overly ambitious?

That would be my thought also.

    Yes it would

Another update from Mike King: The driver could be installed on select workstations. If a workstation needed both the 32 Bit and 64 Bit they would have to have different DSNs (logical Data set name) in order to have the system identify which driver to use. To order the driver you can contact sales@pvxplus.com or call us at 1-888-975-7587 and press 1 for sales. If you want to give it a try it can be downloaded from http://www.pvxplus.com/pgsrvr.pvp?pg=dl_optional (select the 64 bit version -- second from the top). It should work using a key of DEMO for testing.

I'd be interested to see if someone could download this demo driver and attach to a MAS90 database without any login...

I just did and got the usual MAS login prompt. I just love how Sage pushes us to have all our customers on the latest version all the time when they can't get on the latest version even of stuff they own.

Sage doesn't own PVX Plus. This is Mike King's as Sage sold Providex to him.

News on the Sage 64 bit ODBC front - Elliott Pritchard Sage is currently testing a 64-bit ODBC driver for use in our upcoming release as well as version 4.50. And Michael King's reponse - Michael King Boy that seems like a waste of time and money when they could have simply licensed our version.

That is great news then. I sent an email to my contact that said 5.0 and wanted to be sure that is accurate still. It would be nice to see something in SU9 and SU3!! Now just need to get alchemex to be compatible with excel 64-bit.

@JohnnyPabian - The reference was that it was being released for v4.5, no mention of v4.4. Could be one of those carrot hold backs to migrate up to v4.5. And I do find Michael King's response a little telling of the relationship between Sage and PVX now...... Why DIDN'T Sage just license the driver and move on to bigger issues?????

    Posted 02-02-2012 20:42
@JeffSchwenk If they release for 4.5 - I am thinking we can get around to get it working on 4.4. Once the drivers are on the machine I am thinking it will not matter which version we want to point to. You might have to run worksation setup for 4.5 or something like that.

@JeffSchwenk I was thinking the same thing about Mike King's comment. It's telling that Mike bashed Sage publicly and he did not seem to be aware even that a 64 bit OS from Sage was in the offing. However I sense that there's been ""bad blood"" to some extent between the two for some time. Mike exited Sage pretty early and though he has been keeping a low profile has to my knowledge not been a key speaker at any Sage events.

  • 23.  RE: Excel 2010 64 OS ODBC driver - Does anyone have a

    Posted 02-03-2012 07:31
Come on - Mike should have known MAS90 needed a 64-bit ODBC and that Sage was going to need to address this. While we do not know whether he was in direct communication with Sage on having the ""Fix"" and my hope he would have offered it at a reasonable price. From Sage's standpoint it could have been a cost issue - licensing from PvxPlus could have been way more expensive than doing in house. I think we have a bigger issue. ProvideX as our source code. PVXPlus is trucking down the road with new features etc. If Sage and PVXplus are not somehow sharing the new code then I see the MAS90 providex being only enhanced when it is desperately needed for that feature.

I received same response - I think they are just working on it for 5.0 release later this year and are realizing this can work with 4.5 also.

Which brings us back to the age old question - What is Sage doing to TRULY enhance the product? Isn't improving the foundation (PVX) part of the equation?
