Yes, but it's still not the same as the original chat. I actually like it better to have a choice of reply methods and especially find it will be convenient when you need to quickly get information to someone, privately, for discussion in progress.
Happy New Year

@Michelle Forsey just mentioned a fine workaround for No 1 below. Find a discussion board post from your intended Message recipient then click the REPLY INLINE dropdown then choose Reply to Sender.

It opens the Advanced Editor (just like clicking on Reply to Discussion does) and you are
now messaging an individual while not being inhibited from meme'ing away. Overall
the regular Message UI can use some improvements but they are small annoyances
compared to the overall larger benefits of the new platform.

Observations from Testing the Message (private chat) functionality:
Dialogued with @Michelle Forsey and noted the following about the Message UI. It turned out be very different experience from discussion board interface. Not whining just things I noticed . Some things are the same as SC some not.
- No basic HTML editor or Advanced Editor ( @Michelle Forsey and @Steve Iwanowski are big meme'rs so how will they cope)
- Sent a URL but the link wasn't clickable for her
- No Recommend / Like button
- No Bookmark capability
- Cannot figure out how to create private message with more than 1 person at a time (e.g. a group of 3 persons in a private chat). Can do this in SC.
- Our messages are not grouped by conversation. Instead, they are treated as individual outgoing or incoming messages. IOW, I have to click Sent Items to see my messages and click Inbox to see hers, and you can view only 1 sent or rcvd message at a time. Seems like too many mouse clicks.
