  • 1.  Epic Games wins Antitrust Case over App Store Fees

    Posted 12-12-2023 06:15

Google has been found guilty of monopolistic activities by requiring publishers to list their applications on the Google Android workplace and pay hefty fees in order to be listed.   Sage and other publishers have been following Apple and Google in requiring third party applications to be listed on their store and pay 20% or more in commissions.  We chose not to be a Sage endorsed product when presented with the requirement of paying 22% of all revenues on a price sensitive product.  SAP has similar odd pricing on their BTP platform and SAP Store where the more you sell, the higher their participation (and fees) become.

I personally hope that platform and store providers go more to a fixed fee or mixed fee and low % pay to play participation model where fees are reasonable or tiered.  I foresee an explosion of new enhancements helped by and using AI will be hitting the market in the next few years.  A competitive market and involvement of more third parties in a competitive marketplace will benefit our customers.

    App Store = API Access

The real money is "taxing" transactional integrations. For every sales tax, AP Automation, AR Automation, and Credit Card processor and ERP vendor is going to ask for a % of revenues in exchange for allowing API access to the ERP vendor solution.
