Enterprise software sales chugging along (slowing)? Funny how the rate of growth (about 3% ) that's seen as average among enterprise companies is also the amount of Sage's price hike. Need some growth? How can we do it? Innovate? Sell more? Nope. Raise the price to customers who are locked into our solution. Similar concept to the electric and water utility companies - except there is no government regulation. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/04/22/idc_enterprise_software_sales/

It's pathetic. The thought goes ... keep increasing rates until the inflection point between total revenue and customer retention is maximized. Econ 101 theory in action. People do this short-term shit to chase quarterly shareholder needs. It's completely detrimental to the long-term gains but ... it's the easy appraoch for the here and now. Software vendors need to go back and read Peter Drucker's stuff. Marketing and innvoation is how you create sustainable, long-lasting value.

sustainable, long-lasting value"" does not seem to be the goal of even the shareholders

That's presupposing that most of the vendor staff can read.
