  • 1.  Emailing with Office 365 - Broke!

    Posted 03-02-2020 16:13
    Hi
Customer is on v2017 Adv and has been emailing Direct Deposit Stubs for a year or more using Office 365 setup in Company Maintenance.  The authentication account in Company Maintenance is also the 'From' account in Form Maintenance and always has been.

Last week, IT turned on Dual Authentication in Office 365 and the users all had to log out and log back into their accounts.  Today PR tries to email stubs for the first time since the security updates and getting failure with 535 5.7.3 Authentication Unsuccessful.  She retyped the password in Company Maintenance. Logged out of Office365, logged back in, the code was sent to her phone to input.

Is the dual authentication a problem and how do I get around this?
Other ideas of what might have suddenly broke this?
    Thanks
    Nancy

They might need to have an app-specific password when 2FA is enabled:
Create an app password for Office 365
    Office remove preview
Create an app password for Office 365
Last updated 19 April, 2019 An app password is a code that gives an app or device permission to access your Office 365 account. If your admin has turned on multi-factor authentication for your organization, and you're using apps that connect to your Office 365 account, you'll need to generate an app password so the app can connect to Office 365.

Thank you, I'll give that a try!
Update: yes it did work.  Will have to put that in my knowledge base!  Thanks again George!

Thanks, @George Khairallah, we are proceeding with your above suggestion to try an App password since 2FA is enabled.  Surprised there's still nothing about this in the Sage kb, at least not that I could locate.

Note, the specific user will likely need to create the App password (via the below steps), at least that was the case for my client due to how 2FA is set up for them and/or because the Administrator account cannot log into the user's account to do this.

To create App passwords using the Office 365 portal:

    • Sign into the user's Office 365 account via https://portal.office.com.
    • Access 'My Account' page > Security & Privacy, then expand 'Additional security verification'.
    • Select 'Create and manage App passwords' to open the App passwords page.
    • Select 'Create' and enter the name of the App requiring the App password (e.g. Sage).
    • Copy the password from the 'Your App password' page, and then 'Close'.
    • From the 'App passwords' page, make sure your App is listed (e.g. Sage).
