Cross-posting is when the same message is simultaneously posted to multiple forums/groups.

This seems to lead to multiple messages on the same topic - each of which attracts a set of replies.
This fragments messages, it's confusing and may be more difficult to search in the future

I think it's a bad idea and if we have the ability we should limit the ability to cross-post to announce only member messages.

Cross posting allows members that may be in separate communites by security group settings to enjoy posts in thier relative community.  It's a good feature when used appropiately but I can see how its use could be frustrating @Wayne Schulz.  Higher Logic is a platform used by 1,000s of organizations and features that may not be apparent in our very small organization setups are obvious as a need for communites larger in size.

If it's urgent support - it goes into the urgent community only. No need to post into routine Sage 100 as well. That creates duplicate posts which attract different sets of answers and make searching problematic ( I don't think searches are returned by full threads but rather by keyword hits on individual messages - which get fragmented during cross-posting). If it needs to reach every community member it goes into 90 Minds community where everyone already is a member.

If someone needs to reach multiple communities, they can copy / paste the contents into a second message (which is not a significant burden).
Having it as a drop-down is too easy, without a clear indication that this creates two separate threads.

On some platforms this type of thing creates a single discussion linked from multiple places, but if the option could be disabled here (where users might not know the difference) I'd support that change.

I understand the issue, now, thank you for the example @Wayne Schulz.  It would be more effective to use the tools provided by the HL system, tags, and mark threads that are urgent with the hashtag urgent (#urgent).  This eliminates the cross-posting in your example.

Tags are designed to be searchable, easy to follow and easily retrieved.  Formal tags are listed in the Browse discussion without having to initiate a search and if you do search, you can search for threads that include the tag(s).  I recall that you can drilldown from a tag, but I've not tested it for while.  I'll add some tags to this post and see what I can find via search and drill-down.  Also I've attached a one-page document on using tags in HL.

The search by hashtag is quick and easy to use.  Open Browse, click a green hashtag or type the hashtag into the search option including the # sign and the system will zoom into all threads with that tag.  You can also just click the tag from the browse screen and quickly get to the threads.  The left side of the search window lists the tags and you can filter via tags.

For mobile users, click the magnifying glass icon, enter the hashtag you want to search,  such as '#2019', all threads with the hashtag or containing that text are displayed.

    Search result using tags

My main concern with cross-posting is not frequent posters / power users, but more the newbie / panicked member contributing or asking something, and struggling with unexpected multiple threads for their post(s).

It would be helpful to move the urgent help thread to the top of the page.  It currently sits at the bottom and I rarely go below the main Sage 100 support thread.
