During the meeting, the topic of the new ""improved"" WIN 8 desktop look came in several times in side conversations. And in every one, the common lament was ""wish I could have the WIN 7 start button back"". Well, look no more as there is a solution. www.ninite.com has a utility that will brings ""old reliable"" back to the WIN 8 world. And best of all, it is FREE!!! After struggling with WIN for about a month, I mentioned the frustration to my IT support person. In about five minutes, I was a happy person (OK, only for about five more minutes until I had another Sage moment).....

I use a tool called Stardock that does the same thing. It's cheap and works great.

Cheaper than FREE? They actually pay you money to use it?

What's the problem with Windows 8 (assuming you're actually talking about 8.1)? Once I took a few moments to get the hang of it, I don't miss the old one at all and prefer working with the new one.

Jeff, I started using 8.0 last January and I didn't find ninte in my reviews for a solution. Stardock was highly rated in several sites I researched. and I said it is cheap, not cheaper. I don't know what ninte costs and I learned a long time ago that free is not always best. I'm happy with my purchase and am trucking along.

@JohnShaver when 8.0 came out without the start button, it was a little challenging to get around at first. A tool to return the start button was very helpful. With 8.1, it's not nearly as important but I find some user make the transition easier with tool to help them.

I haven't done any GTS research on alternatives. I just asked my tech if there was any thing that resembled WIN 7 and this is what he installed (NC). No dispute that you get what you pay for. But so far, so good. I did download Win 8.1 and I still struggled with the transition. The only reason I picked up a laptop with WIN 8 is because clients are starting to install without asking. My first hands on was as a result. It ""only"" took a week to get Sage 100 operating on it. Now I am down to less than an hour. I just thought I would pass along the utility as others were asking about as they have been struggling as well. In addition to the Classic button download, there are many other utilities available on the site.
