Sage 100

Doing a MAS90 upgrade from 4.4 to 4.5, all went well on the server but when I go to update the client it doesn't see the existing install and prompt to update it to the current version. It wants to do a separate install so I have to remove the 4.4 client and then install 4.5. This is one of those times where I feel like I'm missing something obvious..... any suggestions? Thanks!

So it doesn't see any previous version? Anything in add/remove programs in the control panel?

The 4.4 client shows up in the control panel but the MAS 4.5 client install doesn't see it when it runs so no prompt to ""update the client to version 4.5

Did you do a parallel or over the top?

No clue. Seems to be one of those ""Sage"" things. Depending on the number of workstations, I will uninstall the old version first just to keep things neat and tidy.

I did a parallel but then moved the 4.4 version on the server to a backup file and renamed pvxwin32.exe and moved the 4.5 install to the same folder that held the 4.4 version

I did an inplace upgrade on v4.4 to v4.5 and on a couple of work stations they started using MAS without an upgrade of the client. On two computers it upgraded the work station and on two it did a fresh install of the client.

I'm with Jeff, i always uninstall, reboot, install the new. I wouldn't think a parallel would see a previous version but never really paid attention either. Because now I'm curious, i just launched my 4.50 workstation setup and it doesn't see any of my previous version installs.

Guess I've just been lucky on some of the 4.4 installs we did, when we ran the client install it saw the 4.3 client and asked if we wanted to update it - one click and it was done.

You're right! I launched my 4.40 and it does see the previous versions. Hmmm.. just one more change they didn't tell us about!

I had I think the same issue from a MAS200 4.4 to 4.5. Upgraded the server and converted data - all fine. Then went to workstation and ran update - not uninstall/reinstall. What I think happened here was the ODBC path pointing still to the 4.4 install and it sees that data was at 4.4 level and prompted me to convert data. I did and realized it was converting all over again. I ended up killing the conversion - uninstalling and reinstalling and the 4.5 workstation worked fine.

I've always uninstalled old version / reinstalled new version. If your'e using IT folks to help run workstation setup it's a ""dog and pony show"" to explain for 20 minutes how odd the Sage workstation setups can be....
