Does Sage provide any local tax schedules in the Payroll Tax Tables? The reason I have asked is I have one or two clients in Maryland. Sage has setup filing statuses within the state tax schedule instead of a Local tax. I just turned on and looked in PA and there do not appear to be any there either. I was just readdressing if the current setup is best.

We set up PA's local tax codes manually. Sage does not provide those.

Sage does not currently provide any local payroll tax tables. However, the new Payroll 2.0 will address taxes all the way down to the local jurisdiction. (At least that is what I understood at the presentation I saw at the MOTM event in February).

Yes, 2.0 has local taxes. And you can have multiple local taxes, if needed.

Rather than use local tax codes in Maryland, we've been (and this may be a practice from before there was a local tax, I'm not sure) manipulating the filing statuses to be the different counties' rates. You can ping Tara and me.

I'm not sure about MD, but PA has an Act 32 report that only uses Local tax codes, using a Filing Status under the State won't work for that (that I know of).

Thank you all for the fast response. I have a couple Maryland clients and we have run into the issue of the client setting up there own (by county) filing statuses. This creates and issue because they are not updated with tax table updates because Sage does not use these codes. Sage does supply these filing statuses as rate codes which keeps us from setting up Local tax. As for PA, I used them as an example because I know they have the Act32 and Sage does not provide much there. I have a few work arounds for the Act32 as well. That is a story for another day. Thank you all.

Have you ever used the free service from Avalara at www.taxrates.com? You can pull these down quarterly and use them to update tables in Sage.
