Does Paperless patch that updates the version of Sage PDF Converter / Amyuni Document Converter no longer write to HKCC part of registry

Sage KB 103205 is the updated Sage PDF Converter for versions 2019 - 2021, hotfixes LM6018T, LM6019T, LM7000T respectively. It updates the version of Amyuni to 6.0.4.1 from 6.0.1.1. It's described as Paperless Office printing prompts manually for PDF location after Windows updates installed. But recently I installed on 2019.5 for the purpose of addressing sporadic issue of no response when printing to Paperless and "Printed Not Activated Error -30 " messages.  So far so good.

I installed it on 5 different Remote Desktop (Terminal) Servers and the Sage server (running Premium 2019.5), all running in a hosted Azure cloud. The remote PCs click their Sage icon which is setup as a RemoteApp to connect thru the RDS to run their Azure WVDs (Windows Virtual Desktops). They have a policy to prevent redirected printers. They use using Printix for cloud printing.

Much of it is unsupported obviously but was there before I arrived. While helping IT with all their Paperless woes, (to add complexity) they decided themselves to try Windows 365 Enterprise Cloud PC for a few Sage users as an experiment. So they login to Sage via the Cloud PC. I didn't access myself to install the hotfix so I gave them the instructions. They asked me this question which is not specific to Cloud PC:

** After starting Sage as admin then PL_AdvancedOptions_UI then clicking Uninstall PDF Converter and then Install PDF Converter, the registry entries for Paperless under HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software are no longer there - is this by design?  I think the answer is Yes since that's the famous portion of the registry that was constantly overwritten by Windows Updates and may have been part of the security concern. @Kevin Moyes do you know?

I thought the update to Amyuni was primarily to stop Windows from sending an Amyuni update which in turn was sometimes hosing Sage Paperless.

I’m presently seeing an influx from IT departments of “user just called and all they see is a deferred printer when trying to print a register ( or anything paperless related) “.

Some of the sites are v2018 for which there is no patch. At least one ( 2020 ) I believe has the patch but I still seem to be taking calls. The pace of these calls has definitely picked up over the past two weeks.

I also note that the registry is sometimes gone before I reinstall. So long as I reinstall with admin rights it seems to recreate the keys. In some cases I manually have adjusted the permissions on the key as per our prior cheat sheet and that seemed to work. In all cases the “only deferred printers” seems to be a paperless issue ( as opposed to offline printer ).

I talked to Sage about whether we’d ever see a patch for 2018 so customers 8 mods deep aren’t forced to an expensive disruptive upgrade just so maybe paperless might work better. I got nowhere. As of now I’m unsure whether the patch is resolving this.

This is the cheat sheet I've been using. Sometimes I'll send this to IT. I believe someone on 90 Minds originally created the document.

x-ref - link to the Sage download for the updated Amyuni PDF drivers ( login required // only available for 2019.5 or higher )

Thanks. Yes that's what I'm trying to figure out, if the granting of permissions to that area of the registry, as the cheat shows, is still required with the updated Amyuni (or is it that by me not even seeing the registry key created to begin with actually means it didn't install correctly)?

I do understand what you're saying that the update to Amyuni was primarily to stop Windows from sending an Amyuni update which would reset the same registry permissions and hose Sage Paperless.

I have experienced on several client workstations the Sage PDF installer does not install the PDF converter in the registry.  The user cannot print with paperless.  I had to extract the registry from a working client install and import it into the other user's registry of the same client.  I have had to do this for a couple of clients.

The one page cheat-sheet was from us... originally written by @Robert White .

    Alnoor,
I don't know, but we are still getting these kinds of Paperless errors after recent upgrades, but I don't know how many have that fix.  I'd assume you not seeing the registry key created would be due to a lack of permission to create the key when running the install.  Does Paperless work without it?

    Kevin,

Yes Paperless does work correctly without the registry key but only with this updated Aymuni 6.0.4.1 from LM6018T, LM6019T, LM7000T. The instructions says after installing that at Sage server, run Sage as admin at every workstation and run PL_AdvancedOptions_UI then click Install PDF Converter. When I did that, registry key stayed. But when IT guy did that for his PCs, he chose Uninstall PDF Converter first, which I didn't do, then Install PDF Converter. It appears to intentionally not create the registry key at HKCC\Software anymore. Paperless is working and there are far fewer Error 30s and non-responsiveness during invoice print/pdf/update.

I'll see if there's someone at Sage I can ask. I'll also the other very important question Wayne brought up that Amyuni update was primarily to stop Windows from sending an Amyuni update (which would reset the same registry permissions and hose Sage Paperless).

Interesting... I wonder how the driver manages the PDF locks without that key... hopefully in a non-volatile area of the registry, so we can be done with all that nonsense.

For some reason I could not download the PDF that Wayne posted.  I also cannot find the LM7000T in the downloads of the knowledge base.  May I get some direction as to how you are getting to it.

Michelle - In Sage KB, key in 103205 and drill into KB article. A little ways down you'll find the Download Amyuni Driver link for 2019.5 and higher. It uses the Sage Download Manager for downloading AmyuniDriverUpdateforSage10020192020and2021.exe. Download Mgr did not actually work for me so I ended up clicking on Download Directly ...

Now you run the EXE and it will extract into the 3 installer EXEs for LM6018T, LM6019T, LM7000T. Attached are the PDFs for those. They basically tell you to install once at the Sage server but then also at each workstation, run as Admin when starting Sage, then run PL_AdvancedOptions_UI, then click Install Converter.

If you do the additional step of Uninstall Converter prior to Install Converter, most likely you will NOT see the HKCC\Software registry key for Paperless recreated and from what I mentioned above, Paperless is still working, at least for me.
