Does anyone know of JCS Computer? I did a quick scan of the 90 Minds list and I don't see any members from JCS Computer. Just curious as they have been sending ""marketing"" (poaching) literature to my customers.

They have 9 offices, with headquarters in Sacramento, California. They also are a JobOps Solution Provider, but I do not know anyone with them. They also go by Accounting Business Solutions by JCS and JCS Computer Resource, Inc. Their other products are Sage 50 and QuickBooks.

Looking at the web site they seem to be a big company. As you mentioned, 9 offices spread across the US. Interesting I have never heard of them.

On the other hand, it may be 1 person in each city working from home :-)

Unless something has changed, I believe Jennifer O'Brien is the owner, based in Detroit, Michigan. I met Jennifer at a Sage 50 BPAC meeting a few years ago. I think they have a good size Sage 50 practice, but I don't think they are as large as one might think by looking at their website. My guess is they use a number of part time consultants and list their locations as offices, or they may just list virtual offices which was something commonly done in the Sage 50 world.

I've worked them a very little bit, they assisted us with support for BusinessWorks clients. They were easy to work with and we didn't have any issues.

@DougHiggs - how many customers has JCS sent literature to? I wonder how JCS got their information.

@JaneCavanaugh I just know of one. Of course this is nothing new. Many Sage partners have sent literature to my clients over the years. I found jcs interesting because they claim to have an office in Arlington Heights IL which is close to me. I looked at this web site and they claim nine offices so I was surprised I had never heard of them.

Before joining Net at Work, I had a customer based in TX that used them as their Sage 100 VAR. I reached out multiple times to connect with their ownership to discuss providing assistance to their customers as a CRM resource and never heard back from Jennifer or anyone else other than the one Sage 100 consultant I interacted with once.

Overall, they seem to have flown under the radar for quite a while, but 300+ Sage 100 customers is a healthy base.

$1,325 million for JCS - not a bad deal for a consulting firm many people had heard  of. If there were 350 Sage 100 customer that's about $3,700 per customer. I hope they are all on subscription.

I wonder what their service revenue plus commissions is.  If I were buying the company, the passive income plus the service revenue as well as the subscription agreements, customer market segment, and churn rate of the customers would be most important.  350 customers doesn't mean much.  If half of those (175) are active Sage 100 customers and "on plan", you would think the service revenue would be at least $1M plus commissions on subscriptions, then $1.3M is a bargain.  They should probably have a payback period of less than 5 years.

I couldn't find anywhere that the seller took stock. It appeared to be an all cash sale - paid over 3 years. If all of those customers were on a prepaid annual plan with the seller for $x per year this would seem like good deal.

I couldn't tell if there were any staff which might have transferred. If not, you basically bought a base of customers that should kick off somewhat predictable recurring services revenue.

I feel like this is an unusually good deal for the seller of legacy Sage 100 customers.
