Does anyone know if you have to be a member of SYSADMIN Server Role for the SQL server to install Sage 100 2014 Premium? I have a client IT fighting me for every inch of security and I don't want to begin the battle if it isn't necessary. When I try to install I get to the SQL DB access screen and it tells me ""Error 27506. Error executing SQL Script SQLScript1.sql line13. Not a member of sysadmin server role"". It seems clear to me that I need the SYSADMIN role, but I'd love for someone to confirm it! I've installed SQL lots of times and never seen this, but this IT group takes security to a whole new level.

Beg for the sa password. IT will tell you that it is a security risk so they will usually try and disable sa. It is the only logon I have had success installing Sage 100 with. tell IT they can disable it later.

I agree with Doug I always install using the sa account not a Windows account. However I had your high security situation a couple of times and this worked (and yes sysadmin is required for INSTALLATION not for regular operation of MAS) I actually tell them sa login is required for installation those are Sage's rules BUT I don't need the password for it and feel free to change sa password after installation is complete. I ask them to shadow my session and type in the sa password for me so it can create the MAS_User, MAS_Reports accounts, set all the role and db permissions, and create the MAS_SYSTEM db and its tables. Later when I get to the point where I use the MAS SQL Settings utility to change the password for Mas_User and MAS_Reports (standard procedure for me), the SQL login pop-up will appear again. Now I tell IT guy dude type in sa pswd for me again. Now he can do what he wants with sa since I have everything I need.

Had a similar issue with Epicor. Their IT guy cost them 32 hours in extra billing from us due to his lockdown procedures. Wouldn't even let us do any remote access, even with a VPN etc yet they were 2 hours from our office. The owner is a 'prepper' kind of guy with gun lockers, and a Ron Paul for president barbecue trailer parked on the 'compound'....

Wow, in addition to answering my question, you all are making me feel better about the security I am dealing with. At least they are letting me connect remotely! Love to hear the war stories.
